Wow - the bathroom looks great! You have done the most impressive work with your place!

Although you must be sad to have lost the beautiful blue sink - it's hard to get such perfect rust stains!

I was thinking the same thing...they took the time and money to jazz up the room with the murals, yet they couldn't slap in a H/D special sink replacement??

 Everything looks awesome!!

I LOVE it. I now have all new ideas for my new kitchen which is about 1/3 the size of yours.

I have one question though. What is the reflection in the microwave. That is soo cool, how the camera did this.

Beautiful!! But that face in the microwave is spookyQQ

The orginal area off the bedroom was a 12' x 12' square. The square was divided into quarters... If you can imagine, you walk into the bottom left and it was a wasted space "dressing area". That's what you see in the picture with the stripped spackled wall (never painted
), in front of that was the entrance to a very small walk in closet, essentially a double cloet that you could stand in, the third quarter to the right was the 3/4 GROSS DISGUSTING bathroom... but what elese did you expect from this house , then in front of that was another small walk in closet.
When I first saw the house I immediately thought... Why haven't they blown this out and made a huge bathroom and built closets along the southern wall in the bedroom
? I'm always questioning house design... thanks to Gramps and Dad it's in my DNA
We ripped out that entire area. When you see the rip out pictures and the final pictures, the original bathroom was only 2 feet wider than our current shower and 1 foot deeper.

Yes, my master bath is bigger than every bedroom I ever lived in growing up and I think every dorm room
But ya' know, I lived in my Dad's basement and cared for him after his stroke for seven years so I couldn't ever dream this would really be mine....
 Here goes...

Our contractor, his son and my FIL gutted both bathrooms and the kitchen in two days

The waste pipe had to be extended about 8 feet as the toilet was being located on the other wall. Lots and lots of plumbing being moved here and electrical...
There is a light above the toilet, one in the shower, two highhats in the middle of the room, a fan, 6 electrical outlets (one near floor, one on vanity and one in the linen tower for electric toothbrushes), and the vanity light.

Oh, and you can see the ducts for the CAC that were also being run. In one day I went into that room and there was my contractor working on plumbing, two electricians, and the two CAC guys

My main contractor/plumber works with my electrician all of the time so they coordinated well.

We also had to shift the opening of the previous tiny window and put in a bigger one to fit the space. One problem we did not forsee is where to put the towelbar. The window is too big and to locate it underneath, the towels would be too low so it's behind the door and there is one on the shower door.

Picture 2 is the toilet area and half wall. Highly suggest at least a half wall for the toilet are in such a big bathroom or you might feel self-conscious sitting on a "throne" in such a large room

 Vanity top is Carerra marble

 Sink- Home Depot Expo

 Tile- Old Country Rd. Tile

 Toilet- Home Depot, Kohler

 Plumbing Fixtures- Grohe. This was
But all of the fixtures that also come with matching Roman tub are expensive. They jack up the price knowing it's for a larger bathroom.
Drawer pulls- Home Depot Expo. These were not cheap but they really were the only ones I could find that went so well with my design.

I was going for an older look in the tile and fixtures.
My inspiration was my Grandma's bathroom which was probably done in the 1930's. The vanity is so dark as to look like a piece of furniture.

We went with two showerheads in the shower. the one that came with the Grohe suite and an adjustable one on a bar to make it easier to clean

 | Re: My EXTREME home makeover in 4 months- 5/31/06 UPDATE on p. 4 BEFORE AND AFTER HALL BATH We painted ourselves. As our bedroom is a burgundy/tan color and I wanted to keep the bathroom mostly white, I picked out the Benjamin Moore white swatch with the pinkish undertones and picked from there.Image Attachment(s):
I know, because the color would be right up against the white tile the subtle color would come out and look very light pink. Didn't want to go any more pink for DH

I will accessorize with burgundy towels and a coordinating valance with the ones in the bedroom. That's a project for the summer. There is town property behind us and really tall trees so nothing on the window right now

The shower doors were $$$. I wanted them higher than standard and wanted a wider door. Most of the handles offered looked way too modern. I went for the antique one which of course was $$$ too
They measured, it took two weeks and all day for them to install. Another one of my FIL's subcontractors. It took ALL day but he does meticulous work.

Carrera marble top. Warning... marble is high maintenance and can stain easily. I wouldn't suggest it for a bathroom used by kids.

It would have taken most contractors over a year to do what we did. We paid cash whenever possible and got my FIL''s contractor discount on many items.

I really had a vision for this house and we got it for $200K less than it appraised for. It sat on the market, last year, for four months, in a desirable area because of the shear unbelievable work it needed.

My FIL is a kitchen designer. Caninets are through him. Marble is through his marble/granite subcontractor. Our main installer, George Walling, has worked with my FIL for decades and gave us the family discount. Even with all of the renovations we came out ahead and would still make money today if we flipped it but we are staying for the long haul.

I will say this. This room costs almost as much as the kitchen but well worth it.

ETA: What color/name is that blue paint in your bathroom?? ITs BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!! It goes well with a nautical theme Im thinking of, I LOVE IT !!!!!!!! tell tell

The color in the blue bathroom is Benjamin Moore's
"Big Country Blue". We got an eggshell finish throughout the house because it's scrubable. It's very similar to the color blue on the painter's tape. We were thinking about the
  and down the line
Don't freak out when you first put it on the wall. It is a bold color. I would only suggest painting a bathroom or a small area that has plenty of white accents, bookcases, etc. that will "pop" off the blue.

It's only paint. Live with it for 2 days and if you hate it you can paint over it. I have a bit left if you want to try it out first.

 Good luck.Image Attachment(s):

 | Re: My EXTREME home makeover in 4 months- 6/12/06 UPDATE on p. 5 BEFORE AND AFTER MASTER BATH Theresa, THANKS for the info !!!!!
I needed a PERFECT color for my nautical theme idea, didnt know which room yet. and Ive been stalling because I KNOW any navy color would just be way too dark.. I was GOING to do it in my wood paneled room
but for the same reason you mentioned (no white to pop off or open up the room a bit) and I refuse to paint anything white (color is a must for me )
So we have a bathroom that we're renovating, and it happens to have a brand new white shower stall, and brand new white toilet bowl and sink, the tiles are a cappucino color though, is that too dark?
also the bathroom is a very odd shape, its very long and narrow, i know this sounds odd (it is!) but its like 8ft X 2ft...yep strange but true...
Im hoping the white I mentioned will be enough to set off the nautical look and pop like you mentioned, and look as gorgeous as your bathroom.

and another plus, like you mentioned the
and , the bathroom is right near the kids playroom, so i can rotate between it being nautical and boys stuff (sports, superheroes, etc.) YAYYYYYYY Im buying the paint this week, thank YOU !
 Im such a copycat

and bold colors are my middle name, cant scare me !
or so i hope this bathroom was meant to be blue. we were sponge painting it a sea blue color, and the RED rags mixed with the blue paint (hubby forgot to rinse the rags like he did last time
), and as much as Ive always LOVED lavendar, Its just not doin it for me, I guess the boy mommy in me has gotten SO over lavendar Message edited 6/13/2006 7:21:58 AM. |
