Re: okay, so with family, you're pretty much required to attend a wedding, but how about a baby shower or Christening?
immediate sybblings, i would say Definately, Yes.... but beyond that, i think its completely situational (with both your relationship with the person And if you really do have something prior engagements, etc...)

I wont say heinous, but there would have to be a really really good reason to not attend imo.

Ummm I would say the christening would be more important than the shower. Couldn't you go to one of them?

Re: UPDATE: okay, so with family, you're pretty much required to attend a wedding, but how about a baby shower or Christening?
after reading your update, I'd say it's pretty obvious that you SHOULD NOT go. I definitely wouldn't!!! what arses they are!! screw "Jill" and her little beanstalk "Jack"...they probably just invited you b/c they want a gift. i think you both made the right decision to not go.

i think the only reason you SHOULD go is to put liquid laxative in their drinks, and cause them as much pain in their azzes as they caused you in yours. However, if you dont plan on doing that, then i'd skip it altogether

Nah, it's too far of a drive for that. Tolls too.
If it were nearby, I'd consider it.

yeah, defiantely not worth it then.
but still nice to daydream about
