 | kind of wedding related question So we were planning to renew our vows this year and have the wedding we never had but instead decided against it.
part of me still wants to have the white dress and beautiful pics so I was thinking how about if I buy a beautiful dress, buy a suit for him and a dress for our daughter and hire a photographer to take those pictures that we never had.

I really don't care about the whole reception and everything that goes with it, I just want the memories of us as a family.

 what do you think?

 honest opinions please.

 | Re: kind of wedding related question Hmmm... I see what you saying BUT You should have memories from your wedding day. It doesnt matter that you didn't have a WHITE dress. You still looked beautiful.
Why not just have a family portrait done at a studio?

 | Re: kind of wedding related question Honestly, do what you want. Do whatever will make you happy.
I did the big wedding and wish we didn't. I mean, I loved it, but the planning and days before became a headache. It should be the happiest time of your life, not headache after headache. Besides, save the money for a downpayment for a house, or a new car.

Take the pics...they're all I ever really wanted anyway.

 HTH!!

 | Re: kind of wedding related question I think family pics would be great, but I would not do a wedding dress. The only reason I look at my wedding dress is to remind me of that day, not because I love the dress...
I think a formal family portrait is what it sounds like you want.

ETA: You never said if you meant to buy a wedding dress...I wouldn't do that...

 | Re: kind of wedding related question Beth, I know what you are saying but at the same time, I just feel like I never experienced that and everytime I see everybody's wedding pictures, I get jealous because I wish I had that.
who knows maybe we will just have something very informal that doesnt require lots of money.

Well, I think if you aren't wearing a wedding dress it isn't trying to replicate wedding pictures (were you thinking bouquet and everything?), it's just making new memories for your family, which I think is a great idea. I can definitely see wanting quality pictures of the family--we never get good non-professional or candid ones of me and Dh.

Even if it takes you a year to save... I think you should do a little something...very small, but wear your dress, take your pics, have your day. |

Also let us know so we can show up & cheer!

i agree. But, however small the party is, i still think its important to have the party.

Pictures are nice, but its the memories from when the pics were taken that make them so memorable and valuable.

 | Re: kind of wedding related question Im in the same boat...
Was supposed to have the big beautiful wedding (well vow renewal) in Oct. but after everything with my dad, and after having RJ... I just could spend the $$$$...

Now the memories and pics were still important... and thats why we are doing our vow renewal in Jamaica in October....

Im still wearing the white dress.... DH is going to wear a suite.. and Im paying for professional pics to be done there....

We are bring DS- we are staying in Beaches Sandy Bay.... there is a whole thing for kids (sesame st. themed) and I cant wait!!!

Our real wedding day was special... but I feel we didnt make a big enough deal out of it- since I knew (or at least thought) we would be following through with our big wedding @ east wind...

Look into a caribbean wedding/vow renewal...

Everything (the ceremony, cake, photos, the trip itself which is all inclusive, and airfare) is costing us about 3500.... for 8 days....

If this is not an option... than I say get that dress.... and take those pics.... Trust me- I KNOW how important it is...

 | Re: kind of wedding related question I would go for the renewal of vows but don't stress about having some big to-do to please other people. I was at a wedding this weekend and they have a 3 year old daughter and DH and I were saying how we'd love to renew our vows in a few years so that our daughter could be part of the experience -- since she is SUCH a huge part of our life together --- so I can understand wanting to do that --- but remember the day is about you and your DH and not about having a big presentation to please other people! |
