Front-Loading Vs. Top-Loading

I posted the other day about researching appliances because tomorrow we are purchasing a washer and dryer for our home. I have looked at a website that was recommended to me, however...

I read the post where people were discussing how much they loved the front-loading washer and dryer. Is there anyone that changed to the front-loading ones that saw a significant difference in the way they run? Did you find that they use less energy than the top-loading kind? I keep going back and forth about spending the extra $ on them. Sorry to be annoying, but any extra opinions on this topic would be greatly appreciated!!

The cycles are shorter for the dryer.

I can dry an entire load of clothes in about 34 minutes instead of over an hour in our top loading dryer.

The washer also uses less than 1/2 the water of a conventional top loader on normal cycle.

Re: Front-Loading Vs. Top-Loading

We switched from a top loading washer to a front loading one because of the major reduction of water that it used.

Within the first few months of owning our house we found out the washer machine was being ran to a separate dry well, which could not handle the amount of wash we were doing. (washer over flowed in our basement)

We switched the washer to the regular cesspool and went and got a new washer machine. We went from using about 30-40 gallons of water to 13-15 gallons.

As far as energy saving I'm not sure the exact amount.

You guys just made me feel that we definitely made the right decision. We bought them today. My DH definitely wanted to make sure that we were using less water. That basement story probably could have easily been us in the future! Chat Icon

Thanks again!!
