Friendship list at Pre K
Do any of your schools do this? DD brought home a sheet today on which I am supposed to fill in her name, home address and phone number in case any of her classmates want to have a playdate and they will know how to contact us I guess.
Is this the norm nowadays? I find it strange as when she was at preschool the parent would just ask me and we would go from there without having to have our information printed out on a sheet for all to see.
Am I being paranoid as I dont want to fill this in?
BTW its not mandatory its just something they suggest.
Thanks

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
It sounds like a school directory. I wouldn't think it is a big deal. I don't know if it is the norm but it sounds convenient.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
If you aren't comfortable with it, then definitely do not do it. Having said that, we did one in my DD's preschool before we let out for summer. I knew everyone at that point though so I was fine with it. If it was the beginning of the year, I would not have done it.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
I have heard of that before. I think its good because many times some parents don't get to meet. Or if you only want to invite a certain few to a birthday party.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
I believe this is totally standard practice. My DD's preschool gives out a school directory that has all this info in it. Plus, in my first grade class, I always send home this info to the kids (after getting the parents' permission - which I've never had a parent deny!).

Also, to address this, you would never see me (DD's PARENT) since I am a working mom. I really appreciate having this info!
What are you afraid of?

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
Mine had it...I still refer to it now (and DS has since graduated pre-k)
It's very helpful when it comes to goodybags, party invites, Valentines etc...As well as when someone is trying to organize a gift for the teacher at the holidays and as a "chain" when school is closing early or something like that

Yes. DS's nursery school sends out a class list with the parents names, addresses and phone numbers. You do have the option to "opt out" if you are not comfortable providing your address/phone #.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
I haven't heard of a list - our preschool has a directory book - so we have the name, address and phone number for every family in the preschool. I just assumed all schools had this. I know every school I attended growing up had a directory.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
I am not comfy giving out my address, but I would probably give my phone number. It is the beginning of the year. Nobody does background checks on the parents before school starts. Who knows who has a crazy parent?

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
We filled out the information and we received it as a directory. I found it very useful. The main purpose behind it was that they wanted you to participate in a call chain, meaning you call the next person on the list when a call when out that had to reach all parents. But it also came in handy over breaks and summer when they had b-day parties and we wanted to send invites.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
Ella's pre-K class distributes a class list - parents names, addresses, phone numbers & email. I've referenced it often and find it handy.
(we gave 'permission' to distribute it)

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
We used to have class lists ALL the time when I was little, I remember one from first grade (which was 1985) so its not SO new.
I would definitely fill it in. Also handy to have for party invites and such.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
We've done one each year for DS. Very useful. Even more so in K-12, since we never see the parents, since DS takes the bus. He'll come home and say "Can I go to Mike's house? He said I could come over".... uh, which Mike, where does he live, who are his parents, etc, etc....

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
As a working parent, I find this list so helpful. I am not there for the drop off and pick up so I never had the chance to speak with the other parents and exchange phone numbers to arrange play dates

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
We got a sheet like that to fill out, but its for the teacher to make a class list and incase kids want to invite the class to b-day parties etc. Not necessarily for playdates.

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
I don't understand what you're nervous about - anyone with a computer can get that information by looking up your last name anyway - it's only address and phone # - which to me seems convenient for everyone - it's not like they're asking for your SS#

Re: Friendship list at Pre K
maybe this is a fancy name for a class list?? I teach 1st grade and always send home a confirmation in case people don't want it included.
