fried green tomatoes
Anyone have a recipe for this? I have some green tomatoes at home I would like to fry up. I have had them before at dinosaur bbq in manhattan and when we have been to georgia. They are so yummy! But not sure how to bread them so they taste autherntic.
Thanks!

Re: fried green tomatoes
My dad used to make these ALL the time! I don't have his recipe committed to paper but I can tell you what I remember!
He did a normal dredge in flour, then an egg wash of thinned buttermilk and egg.
Then a coating of seasoned cornmeal. For a cornmeal coating you usually mix the meal with flour and seasonings. I would use salt, pepper, some red pepper flakes and a smidge of garlic and onion powders. Dip and fry.
For frying my Southern born dad was a huge fan of peanut oil.

Re: fried green tomatoes
Cornmeal is different than cornstarch and while grits has cornmeal in it .. it isn't cornmeal.. I'd go buy a container if you have the time!

Re: fried green tomatoes
I coated mine in flour and they were delicious. I served them on a roll with bacon and ricotta. it sounded weird when I saw it in the magazine but it was really really good.
