 | Re: Freeport Question They are definitely working on cleaning up the area - especially around the Nautical Mile. They built Victorian-looking condo's this past year and they "cheapest" went for $540k.
I hope they continue rebuilding - the area has some of the most gorgeous homes and the Nautical Mile is filled with great restaurants.

they need to do something about the SD! my sister was a student teacher there a few years ago and said it was worse than any city school.

I was at Freeport High School for two years a few years ago - as an intern and then as a leave replacement.
I've also been in city schools. Is Freeport tough? Do they have problems? Yes. Would I send my kids to school there right now - no. But to say it's worse than any city school is incorrect and completely laughable. Don't believe the hype.

years. Area is ok, mixture of home types ie colonical & old victorian etc, quaint in some areas. They are fixing alot of the streets/potholes etc.

and? There's a bunch of schools that are better than Bayside and a bunch that are better than Freeport - what's the point?
I've been at Bayside - wasn't too impressed.

Agreed about Bayside. My SIL moved from bayside to Florida and the school in florida is better then bayside... now who was saying that about the south and schools

 | Re: Freeport Question i thnk to say "better than or worse that city schools is making a generalaztion that all city school are bad."i will admit most are not good. i teach in one. But the district i live in ( wish i taught in) District 26 is the best one in the city and has some wonderful schools such as Cardoza.
Every school has good and bad some have more bad than others some more good than others.

I still don't get the point. I was responding to a GENERALIZATION made that "city schools were all definitely better than Freeport." I beg to differ.

So big deal - Cardozo and Bayside are (in your opinion) better than Freeport. They are certainly not representative of the majority of city schools.

Three quarters of the high schools on Long Island are probably better than Bayside and Cardozo.

Did you work at Freeport. If you did, by all means, you can compare. If not, you really shouldn't judge. What do you define as better? There were plenty of things and characteristics at Freeport that I would definte as "better."

just wanted to clarify. I was the one who made the initial comparison (hear say) between city SD's and Freeport, because my sister has worked at both and that's her opinion.

geez whats your problem? I have done research on a lot of the SD's on LI, including freeport. and my FH, being a teacher, knows what he is looking at. I do not like Freeport SD. if you do, good for you, im not going to judge you, so why are you on my case?

I'm glad you've done your "research" on schools. The are mass generalizations about districts - both good and bad. Things are a lot different on the inside. |

I am not Ignorant. Not everyone can work in a school before sending their kids there. you have to use the information at hand to make an informed decision. I am using the information that I have the ability to obtain.
