Freddy update
Well Fred had a stress test today. I was with him while he had it done. They wanted to make sure they got a good read and he is very agitated and is not staying still when they need him to. He has ants in his pants. He is just about ready for rehab. I went to a place this morning to check out that was a sh!thole. I wouldn't put my worst enemy there. Sunday I will check out another.
Fred's heart is pretty good according to the docs. Minimal damage from the heart attack. He will be transferred to a regular room out of ICU soon. Then it's just a matter of getting him assessed for rehab. He is anxious to get out of the hospital and everyone says that the best place for him will be rehab.
He is lucid sometimes but mostly still a froot loop. I hope that they can rehab his cognitive functions. I hope he doesn't end up in a long term care situation for good.
He got fitted for a prosthetic today and the speech and swallow therapist should see him tomorrow to assess whether he can eat. I gave him some water even though I wasn't supposed to. He was so dry there. He was able to swallow so I'm hoping he will be able to eat soon.
His road will be very long in therapy..all kinds, cognitive, behavioral, occupational, physical and psychological.
I think I'm finally coming to grips with what happened to him and I feel more at peace about the future. I have been so upset over these last few weeks and now since I know physically he is out of danger and there will be some sort of future for him, I feel better. I don't want to think about the what ifs meaning if he never gets better than this..I still think about it and that is what gets me upset.
I'm looking on the positive side. Hoping for the best. I have to live my life while he is starting to regain his. Here's to a life for Fred.

Wow! Your brother certainly is a fighter! And you're a wonderful sister for being so strong and supportive to him! Kudos to you! here's to Freddy and his strength to continue fighting for his future!

I just thought I would tell you that he kicks his covers off all the time and he's wearing a gown..he flashes us all the time. Not on purpose but we still laugh about it.

He sounds like he's doing fantastic! The fact the he's being moved to a regular room and is getting ready for rehab should keep you positive. He IS headed in the right direction.

I used to work in an ICU it's a total guy thing all the men used to do it from the very young to the very old.

My brother did the same thing in ICU...not what a sister wants to see
I'm so glad to hear he is continually improving...he's a true fighter!

It sounds like he's making great progress! I hope he can eat solids very soon and gets transferred to rehab shortly. I think he'll "feel" much better in a rehab environment!

I just wish these rehab places were not nursing homes..some of them are just awful.
I haven't called the hospital yet today. I get a knot in my stomach when I have to call or when they call me.

My mom was at North Shore Manhasset for rehab when she had her hip replaced and had a wonderful experience. Not all of the patients were senior citizens either.

I heard it was nice. They don't have dialysis on site there. Unfortunatley, it's limited.
