FREAKING OUT... one step closer to being a marine mom
why do our children put our hearts, stomachs, and nerves through the grinder???????????????
i'll save you all having to read all the ups and downs i've been through in the last week lol
DS took his ASVAB today. i found out through the person who gave him a ride home that he scored ABOVE AVERAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
i am beyond the moon at this moment.
this is a young man with a learning disability (and test anxiety), who took it upon himself to study online and with books... no other help. from the first practice test to the second, he increase his score by 26%... now he's ABOVE AVERAGE!!!! i have been crying since i found out.
but i haven't heard it directly from the lovely boy  he said he wants to wait until i get home to tell me everything.
now, i have to wait to find out his actual score, how it all went, and what his other score is (the one that tells you what jobs you qualify for).
i want to leave work and run home so i can hear EVERYTHING from him.
God answers prayers!!
i'll keep you guys posted 
ps. forgive me if none of this made sense. i'm about ready to jump out of my skin. not sure how i'll make it through the rest of my work day.

you should be so proud! Try to focus on what a stand up man you have raised, who loves his momma, loves his country. You have raised a thoughtful GIVER, he gives to society instead of taking! He is clearly a hard worker too! I know it must be scary, but focus on the kind of person he is (and the kind of mother he needed) to be the kind of man he is today! You have so much more to be proud of, redirect your focus to that.
As a mother myself, I can only imagine that is far easier said than done but if my son grows up to half the man your son is, Ive done a good job!
This isnt just about him, its the culmination of all of your hard work. You did it, you really did! You raised a kind, smart, giving, strong, selfless man and for that you should be insanely proud.
In your moments of fear, think of that. Think of all you two have accomplished together that brought you to this time in your lives. You did it! Go Mom!!!!

thanks everyone!
i got the official word... he did do as well as i was lead to believe. now, we go over all the job opportunities that he qualifies for.
he is so happy!!
i got the tightest hug from him last night when i was telling him how proud i am of him!
although i know that this is really about him and how amazing he is, his test scores gave me a moment of validation. so many family members were riding my a$$ about why he wasn't out there looking for a job. i had kept saying that we don't need the money and that my kid need to not be distracted in his studies.
last night i was able to say a very polite "in your face!" i know what my kid needs and i went with my heart and my gut.
again, thanks for all the wonderful words, prayers, and support.
i will warn you... get ready for a lot of "i miss my kid" posts as soon as he goes to basic training

Congrats to you and him!!!!!!! My DH is a Marine Let me know if you have any questions as you go through the process! There are a few message boards that I used to belong to that were helpful during the basic training process! I remember finding other family members of young men who were currently in training with my husband and we all compared notes and supported one another, lol.
One thing that I clearly remember happening was they held all of their mail in the beginning. Like I had sent 5 letters, but they weren't delivering any of them to the guys. So my DH was writing to me, homesick and BEGGING me to write to him, and I WAS, but they weren't delivering them to him! So just remember that in the beginning and don't freak out (maybe warn your DS about it too)

eta: This is one of the message boards I used to frequent. It seems a little outdated now, but there might be some basic info as a starting reference on there for you. I wonder if Facebook Groups have taken the place of these boards... http://usmc.yuku.com/
