What age did you sign DC up for step?

DD is 2 1/2 and I was wondering if she would be ready at 3.....

Any recs of specific schools, particularly in Nassau?

I am watching the documentary Jig and it's reminding me how much I LOVED Riverdance and would love to see if DD enjoys it as much as I doChat Icon

Re: Mom's of Irish Step Dancers

My DD is not in Irish Stepdancing, but my niece and nephew are. I was told that they have to be old enough to listen and pay attention real well. If they go to a decent school they don't really tolerate "preschool"-type behavior like most regular dance schools do. They are apparently very strict with their dancers (from what I understand). In fact, I was told when my DD was 5 not to enroll her yet.

Re: Mom's of Irish Step Dancers

My DD just started this year. She was 4 in July. There is one girl in the class that is younger I believe she is 3. the class is an hour and the parents get to come in 10 mins at the end to watch. My DD at that point in not paying attention. she does the moves but is not 100% focused on it. I can see the kids that are slightly older probably 5 and 6 are able to do the steps better. I think that if i was going to continue she would have to go into the beginners class again next year.

She goes to the Shade academy in levittown.

there is also one place in Long Beach and one in Massepequa. the Massepequa class was 30 min which would probably be better at that age, but Levittown was closer to me.

The Irish American Center in Mineola offers classes as well.
