Fox in Backyard
Hi all, So my husband and I have seen a fox (looks like a small one) in our backyard the past few days! We see it at dusk and pretty early in the morning, not during the day so far. Ummm, I'm kinda freaked out! Is it safe to let my kids play out there? Does anyone else have a resident fox?

Re: Fox in Backyard
I have seen one in our yard a few times. It is usually going not staying. If I saw him out there I would not let my kid out though.

Red Fox used to be pretty common on LI but they had been pushed out. They are coming back. They are harmless to you. If you have chickens or other small game in your backyard; you will have to be careful of those.

Re: Fox in Backyard
My parents do! They are northeast Suffolk. The fox only comes around at night, I believe. It goes on the back deck and looks in the door lol. They have had no issues with it, though they don't spend much time outdoors.

Re: Fox in Backyard
I don't believe they will bother you if you don't bother them. I think they are like most wild animals in that they are more scared of us and will run if a human is around. The only issue I could see would be maybe if it was rabid or something, same as any rabid animal like a raccoon

no need to worry about a red fox, he is more afraid of you then you him.
I always felt blessed when out on trails with my horse, if a fox showed himself to us, such a beautiful sight

OMG how did that happen? Did your co worker approach the fox? How did they treat the rabies? That is scary!
