Formula fed babies, question?
Do you heat up the bottle before feedings. I'm mostly BF but I give a bottle once in a while. I have been giving at room temp. Is this okay? I figured it was okay, because that is what they did in the hospital.

I make bottles at room temperature, and only heat them up if they were in the fridge. Room temp is ok!

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
I BF and supplement with formula, room temperature is perfectly ok! I do warm the bottle if the formula is straight from the fridge. Some babies will tolerate the cold formula, but since my DD is only a little over 2 wks old and it is still winter, I prefer not to give her a chilly bottle.

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
Room temperature and he has never had a problem. And I bring his night bottle to the bedroom when DS goes down for the night... 6oz of water in a bottle with all the accessories (using Dr Browns), then formula measured out in a separate container. If he gets up during the night or super early am, I can mix it together in my near-unconscious state and feed him straight away before he gets too fussy.

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
I rarely heat up the bottle. I serve room temp, even sometimes right out of the fridge. THe only time I warm a bottle is in the middle of the night (I just put it in a cup with hot water for like 2 mins).

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
When my DD was on formula, she took it straight from the fridge!
She was so impatient when she was small, she'd scream her head off while I warmed the bottles and it really stressed me out so I stopped. She had no problems.

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
as long as the bottles are room temp they should be fine. The only time you need to warm them up is after you take them out of the fridge.

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
When my DS was born I always heated the bottles and he would cry like crazy as I did it. I think at about 4 months I stopped heating bottles and gave them to him right out of the refrigerator.
This time with my DD I never heated a bottle. In he beginning we used those small 2oz RTF bottles when I wasn't BFing so she had them room temperature. After about a month we stopped using the small bottles and I gave her bottles right out of the refrigerator.

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
I put her bottle in hot water to warm it up. She doesn't like it freezing cold out of the fridge.

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
I never warmed bottles for either of my kids. Reason being, I didn't want to be warming milk in sippy cups when they were off the bottle. Both kids took them just fine cold or room temp.

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
It's perfectly fine to feed it to them room temperature. I always heat them up in the bottle warmer since the formula is refrigerated. When we are out he gets his bottles room temperature. He doesn't seem to mind either way.

I always did room temp. If I took a bottle out of the fridge I only warmed it to room temp. Sometime I would even give bottles straight out of the fridge!

Re: Formula fed babies, question?
DS will even take it straight out of the refrigerator if he's hungry! I asked the ped if that would shock his system, and he said it's totally fine... the temp thing is just becuase they're accustomed to warm, it's not becuase it's easier to digest or more gentle on their systems....
