Forgetfull and distracted
Lately I am so forgetful. I literally will have no recollection of something happening, I often find me self pausing and searching my brain for the right word.
I am also sooooooo distracted. If there is alot going on I just can't focus or stay on task.
I will say my life is extremely busy. I work 4 days and have a demanding and physical job. (ie. don't have more than 15 minutes to really stop and think all day) I get lunch and preps but I am always doing something or helping someone.
Then I come home to 3 kids 5 and under. and it can be chaotic
I just don't feel myself. If my kids are loud or busy I can't multi task like I used to....I often find myself walking in circles not gettin anything done.
I feel like I have adult ADD
Not sure if this is just a side effect of my busy life or if something has changed.
Any strategies to get myself more focused?

I write everything down in a check list format to make sure I do what I need to get done.

Re: Forgetfull and distracted
it's the kids j/k sort of. I just had my 3rd 5 months ago and every since his pregnacy, my memory has been awful. At the end of the pregancy, (May I had him) i couldn't tell you what I was doing, where I was going, what my name was lol. I forgot everything my oldest needed for school. It was so bad. I was not my self.
Everything goes onto my phone calendar on 2 reminders. 1 the day before and 1 an hour before.I now constantly check my calendar.
I feel your pain. I know it's hard to deal with. Take a step back and figure out a way to get organized

This! If I don't write stuff down, I forget about it and it just doesn't get done.
I also think you HAVE TO find a little bit of time for yourself. To just sit and be. Not doing anything. You need to give your brain/body a rest.

ITA. I was so worried about feeling like this a couple of years ago I had brain scans done and saw a neurologist to rule out early onset Alzheimers! At the end of the hour long visit the neurologist basically said its mommy brain. I still think I have adult ADD though so I feel you. I have to force myself to SIT and decompress when they go to bed at night. And EVERYTHING goes in my calendar so I remember and can plan how to get it all done not at one time.

Forgetfull and distracted
This is so me. I'm so distracted and constantly thinking. I can barely have a conversation with someone without being distracted by another thought. I find myself wondering if I even finished a conversation because I can't remember. I've always been like that but it was gotten worse since having kids.

Re: Forgetfull and distracted
My sister and I have been blaming the distractions of social media and looking at the computer/Cell phone screens so much.
I have been the same way and I don't have children & She has an adult son - so that's not the issue for either of us.
I have been trying lists. Doesn't work when you forget the list exists lol You need a note to remind yourself to get back to the list!!!
But really. Like a PP has mentioned, I used my iPhone calendar and reminders often. It definitely helps. Try taking small breaks for yourself. Even if it's just to take a few deep breaths and gather your thoughts.

Re: Forgetfull and distracted
I just had this discussion on FB recently.
I placed an order at a pizzeria recently. I wanted to order Eggplant Rollatini. By mistake I ordered Eggplant Parm. When I went to pick it up I told the guy behind the counter, I'm picking up the Chicken Cutlet Parm. WTH?
This is constantly happening to me. I agree with a PP about always being on social media and our phones. It's a complete distraction that is really taking its toll. I need to cut back and see if it helps.

Forgetfull and distracted
That is me as well, 2 part time jobs, an 18 month old and 3 yr old, husband works rotating shifts. I try to get up really early in the morning And sit and have a cup of coffee before everyone wakes up some can just get my thoughts together that day. It does help!

I'm the same way. I have two small kids, a FT demanding job and just enrolled in school. I have now become very fond of to-do lists

I went to start my car and instead tried to plug my headphones into the ignition.
I sat in the driveway laughing and that quickly turned to nervous laughter - like wtf??!! Lol

Re: Forgetfull and distracted
Thanks everyone! I think I need to do more reminders on my phone and have even more lists than I already do. Even for the simple stuff.
I am always needed. Someone is always asking me for help at home and at work. I rarely can complete a task without being interrupted.
I am learning to say NO at work a bit or redirect people to the person above me. I like to help people but honestly most of it is not my job and I just can't anymore.
Here is a funny story from last week.
I went food shopping with the kids after work (torture enough) when I got home my son had to pee so we went inside quick. We did homework, ate dinner and my DD got a fish bone stuck in her tonsil (so weird) and I had to take her to the ER. On the way home I started thinking about what I was making for dinner the next day and I realized I NEVER TOOK THE GROCERIES OUT OF MY CAR!!! 5 freakin hours later.
Who does that?!?

Forgetfull and distracted
I feel THE EXACT SAME WAY!!! This is my life all the time. If I don't put reminders in my phone, nothing gets done. I am a teacher and I feel like I am expected to be organized. My son just joined cub scouts and I feel like every time there is a meeting or event I forget something or arrive late, frazzled. I have no advice, but just know that you are not the only one.

This is so true. I am constantly looking at my phone and looking at nonsense.
I swear by wunderlist. It's a free app and so easy. You make whatever lists you want. Like Trader Joe's, target, house, to do, to pay, books, movies, each child.....
Then anytime I am like oh I need to see that movie/read that book/buy tampons I instantly add to my list.

You sound just like me! Extremely Demanding career and 3 kids 5 and under! It is So hard! Work stress is out of control and I just never get a minute. At home someone is always pulling at my leg and demanding emails are always popping up. I feel very distracted too. Sometimes I find it hard to focus at work and I have never had this issue before! I wouldn't be worried about it! It just sounds like you have a full plate!!

Re: Forgetfull and distracted
story of my life. I work full time, have a kid, husband, side business. I think its a symptom of being bombarded with emails, tasks, information, surrounding us every minute of the day. our brains just cant process all this noise and crap.
I have to make lists, have a planner (and like a book..not on my phone. DH laughs at me that im old school using a planner).
Lack of sleep or poor sleep on top of it, just compounds the problem.
