Forest Hills
We are considering moving to FH. We both work in the city and would like an easy commute. Are there pockets/streets to avoid? We'd like to be walking distance from the E train if possible.
Open to other areas but grew up on LI and not that familiar with Queens. Nice safe area/easy commute are priorities.
Anything else we should know?

If you want the E you have to be near 71st and Continental.
When I lived in FH I lived in the highrises that run down 67th Ave til Yellowstone. I liked it but I hated walking up that hill to get to the train...its called Forest HILLS for a reason I guess, haha.
I would take the Express Bus in (it was across the street on Yellowstone) and the F home, then switch at Roosevelt Ave for the local to get to 67th Ave.
Again, if you want to be by the E, you should only look at places by the 71st and Continental stop...
To be honest though, my commute from LI is just as long as it is in Forest Hills. If you're looking for an easy commute, I'd look at Astoria or Long Island City...I loved Forest Hills because of the things to do..but the commute wasn't great.

We clearly like to live in the same areas. Before moving to Bellmore, we lived on 102nd and 67th Ave, just across 67th from the top highrise!
I love the whole area. As Kitty said, the 71st-Continental stop is best b/c of the E train, but DH used to just take the R to Roosevelt, then transfer. You can also take the LIRR, but that's a lot more expensive. DH works by Penn, and he found his commute from FH much faster than from Bellmore.

I grew up in bayside and lived there up until last year. I recommend checking it out. There's no subway but you can take a bus to the subway or the LIRR

Agree! I live in Kew Gardens (the next stop on the E train) and since I work on the east side, it's a huge timesaver compared to when I was commuting via LIRR.
Forest Hills is great, there are a ton of awesome restaurants and cafes, a nice shopping district and there's really no "bad" part - it's a great neighborhood.

really? It still took me 35-40 mins to get to the city from Forest Hills...the LIRR takes me 40 mins to Merrick so I equate it the same...
And Jax, we def have to know each other by now, lol, we have basically been neighbors for years. Do you go to Monas in Bellmore? :)

Are you looking for an apt? I live on Yellowstone and 69th Ave and just have a short walk to the E train. It is really easy. I also just cross Queens Blvd and can easily get to Austin St.

I agree. I live very close to Queens blvd and feel very safe.
