For those with preschoolers or BTDT moms

Do your LO's know your real first name or do they only know you as "mommy and daddy"? When do/should you usually tell them this information?

eta: she knows her own first, middle, last, and jewish name and how to spell some of them. It is not a matter of if she can know it but if she should... MIL seems to think she should for security purposes I am guessing, but DH is so afraid of DD calling him by his first name occasionally. IDK why but ... we never taught her our own names and now I am wondering if we should...

My DD figured it out on her own at maybe about 3? She'd hear my DH/parents/friends call me by my name and asked.
She knows mine and DH's "real" name and her grandparents names.

My son learned our names at around 3 and a half because we each have our own Netflix profiles.

Oh dd def knows and sometimes call us by our first names. She would hear dh call me by my name and vice versa.

She even knows her last name.

DS (3) knows my husbands first name. For some reason he has a harder time remembering mine. If I ask him what my name his he will often reply with "mommy ::last name::"

She figured them out a long time ago from hearing them used either by each other, our parents, or friends.

My son is 2.5 and knows DH and my first names, as well as all of his grandparents first names. He just picked it up by hearing us all talk to each other. I don't know how that could be avoided, but I really don't see any harm at all.

DD is 2 1/2 and she knows my name. Every now and again she will use it lol. I'm not sure if she knows dh's name. I can't recall
If she's ever said it but she probably knows it.

Yes DD knows our first names and middle names too. I think she was around 2.5 when she asked about it. She never calls us by our first names.

ETA: i see it as a safety concern. My DD is 4 now and she knows her full name, our full names, her complete address, and our house phone number. We're working on her learning my cell phone number.

I think you should teach her. It certainly sounds like she is capable of learning them easily. DD has known ours ( and my last name since I never changed it) since about 2. I do agree that it's important for safety. Funny enough, whenever my mom is around, my DD calls me almost exclusively by my first name, bc that's what she hears my mom calling me- but she switches back to mommy at all other times.

Yes, they've known for a while. I wanted them to know if God forbid they got lost somewhere and needed to find me. Occasionally they will try and be funny and call us by our first names if we are not answering but as a whole know to always call us mom/dad

Yes, we taught my DD everyone's "other names" when she was around 2. She will very rarely call us by our names unless she is repeating something we just said.

I think we taught my girls everyone's "real" names around 2.5-3.
Sometimes just to be funny they'll call us by our first names or if they're trying to get our attention and at first we don't pay attention they'll scream out our names lol

I told my daughter our names just in case of an emergency, she also knows the name of the street and town we live in (still working on the house #). I told her when she started nursery school, so she was 2 1/2.

My DD knows my DH first name and sometimes if he isn't quick to respond to her she'll scream "Hey Eddie!" LOL! Honestly she never calls me by my fist name...it never dawned on me if she knows it or not. She knows her full name.

My dd is 3 and has known for a long time. She also knows our phone number and address. I use to make up songs with the information in it.

Yes, my older DS knows them. We are still working on address and telephone number. It's a safety thing for them to know in case they get lost.

My 3 1/2 year old knows our first names and has for awhile. We didn't teach him but, my friend's kids call us by our first names (as opposed to so and so's mommy/daddy).

My almost 6 year old didn't know them until he was older, he doesn't pay as close attention to small details.

When I taught preschool, parents first and last names were one of the assessment questions we asked them when we started school. It was also considered a "requirement" that they knew before the end of the year.

Dd is 20 months and she knows the first names of all family members-She will occasionally refer to DH by his first name- usually when he is away on a business trip.

My DS is 3 and he's known for a while. He just picked up on it. He calls us by our names every so often. It's usually when he's calling for us and we don't respond. He sometimes calls "babe" since that's what DH calls me!! But for the most part I'm still Mommy!

My dd is 3 shes known our real names for a year now. She will call me by it and then giggle cause she knows to call me mommy... so its our joke... i didnt put any thought into it she heard my dh and i call out to each other so she figured it out...
