For those who use Penn Station...

Smelly water gushes from ceiling pipe in Penn Station

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - As bad as the commute through Penn Station in Manhattan is these days, it got even worse Wednesday when a ceiling pipe burst, dumping gallons of disgusting-smelling water on a Long Island Rail Road concourse.

Several commuters did what they do: record and post video to social media. The videos showed a shower of water falling on the floor, which was taped off so workers could deal with the mess.

"... pretty sure penn station is raining sewage rn," Kari Szul (@kariszul) tweeted.

"It's raining? It's pouring? Nope just a leak at Penn Station!" Marigo Mihalos (@MarigoPR) tweeted.

"We apologize for the inconvenience caused by a leak from one of our building pipes," a spokesperson for management company Vornado said in a statement to Fox 5 News. "The situation is now under control, and we are working to clean and restore the affected area prior to this evening's rush hour."

Video from a Fox 5 News crew showed water found its way down to rail platforms, too. Crews taped off a staircase and part of a platform that were flooded and wet.

LIRR service was not affected.

Re: For those who use Penn Station...

I'd be really pissed if that gushed on me and ruined my hair/outfit on the way in.
On the way home, eh, whatever.... I usually look like a drowned rat by my train ride home anyway

I heard from people on my FB feed that there were train issues last night though.
But maybe it was unrelated to this.

When isn't there train issues??? Chat Icon
Thank god I do not commute on the LIRR. I feel for the people that do. I can't imagine what they go through daily.

I was thinking of that as I drove to work today.
I had hit a massive pot hole, so bad I felt my teeth shake and probably bent my rim- again- and this particular road was SO bad it was like an unpaved, bumpy path even thought it was a main road!
And I thought of the thread about hating Long Island.
We pay such insane taxes to live here and our roads SUCK, our train system SUCKS, our whole infrastructure is just so so bad. Where is the money going???

Do you know there is a small overpass bridge that goes over the LIE and that I have to travel over to get to the LIE.
They have been "re-building" this bridge for over 2 years now with no end in site. It creates a traffic nightmare for anyone who has to get to the LIE from where I live. At first it was down to one lane in either directions for about a year. Then they decided to close the whole damn thing down completely for almost another year now causing a major traffic disruption on all alternate routes to get to the LIE.
There have been major bridges in NYC that have been built faster than this tiny little overpass bridge. I think the new Kosciuszko bridge was built faster- no joke.
It's disgraceful.

Off topic a bit, I know, but I was just thinking about this.
