For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
Are you feeling totally pessimistic about this whole process from the get go?
I have been on the pill for 10 years and will be going off in exactly 4 weeks...... I had crazy periods before starting the pill, to the point where I don't even remember if I ever had a normal period.......
I'm just feeling like this process is going to be LONG and frustrating We haven't even started yet, and I already am predicting I won't be pregnant till at least July........
My doctor said that most teenage girls have period problems that goes away with the pill and has no baring on anything once they try to get pregnant.....
Is it normal to feel so pessimistic? I just want this to be an easy road.

I'm not quite there yet, but then again we only started this month! In fact, AF is due tomorrow and I'm very curious to see how long she'll take to arrive. Before I went on the pill 5 years ago, I was pretty irregular. Nowhere near a 28-day cycle... it was more like 35...ish. So I'm going to take it one day at a time and let things happen naturally. Unless of course, months and months start passing... THEN I'll start getting pessimistic!!

I am actually optimistic about it all. DH and I will be starting in January and I have a feeling that it will happen right away. I don't know why, my cycles are crazy, but i guess i want it so bad.

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
I'll be honest - I didn't think it would work right away. I had never gotten pregnant accidentally (well, I was always good with birth control, but I know others have gotten pregnant accidentally even when on BC) and I had been on BC for a number of years.
Anyway, the point is that there's no way to know how your body will react after you get off BC. So try to think positive and just take things day by day once you're off BC.

Thanks for posting this. This is the exact reason that I was worried - but I am being optimistic!

This makes me feel better too. We don't plan on trying until next year but I can honestly say I've never even had a scare! I'm the only person I know rounding 30 thats NEVER taken a pregnancy test!
So your post makes me think, yay, maybe it WILL happen for me!

I had period problems and as a teenager and into my 20's and I was on the pill for years and I can tell you that the problems don't just go away. Even having a baby last year still didn't make them go away. Not to be pessimistic but I hate when doctors minimize the trials and tribulations of TTC. Easy for some........not so for others.
Anyway, as someone who has had issues and who also has been pregnant and has a beautiful DD my advice is to take one day at a time. To assume you won't get pregnant for months and months is silly. For all you know it can happen right away. You have not even started and already you feel like throwing in the towel. It can be a long process but it also can be a short one too. Enjoy the process. It's exciting. It's exciting trying for a baby. Even going through fertility issues and spending 4 months at an RE........it was still exciting. Look forward to the adventure ahead of you and I hope that your stay on this board is short. Lots and lots of luck!

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
hi! we just started TTC last month, but i have been off the pill since october 08 b/c like you i had very irregualr periods as teen and wanted to make sure i wouldn't have a problem 0-ing. i don't think i ever once got my period consistently. like one month it would wice then i wouldn't get it for like 3 months, then it would come back with a vengence. so at 17 i went on the pill and came off when i was 27. since coming off the pill my cycles are pretty regular. don't get me wrong i did have one 47 day cycle that i didn't even o-in. my first 2 cycles were 28 and 30 days then i had the crazy 47 day one. My last 7 cycles have been: 32,33,36,32,33,39 and 32. which to me is pretty regular. i wish they were shorter, but i'm just happy they're somewhat regular.
i actually found it really helpful to use fertilityfriend.com and track my BBT. even though i wasn't TTC it made me happy to know i was o-ing and hopefully will be able TTC when i want to.
hopefully once you're off the pill u regulate pretty quickly like i did.

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
It depends on the day I will say - the "reality check" all of these wonderful ladies on this site gave me made realize that I did have to "prepare" myself -- I have stopped BCP earlier than planned because I want to make sure I'm O'ing by the time we are trying, I have purchased prenatals and will start them in January and I have read Taking Charge of Your Fertility...i'm full of knowledge and ready to go

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
i was on bc for 13 years, stopped taking them in march, got a bfp in july. and my cycle became much more tolerable. completely predictable, 29-30 days and no real pms, just cramps which i always had pill or not.
everyone is different, best of luck

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
when i was first ttc'ing - i could've written the op's post word for word!!!!!
i was put on the pill when i was like 15 because of horrifying periods (started ttc'ing when i was 33). I kid you not - i was on some MASSIVE doses of pain killers when i got my period. I would bleed an insane amount and the pain would send me home EVERY month from school. i'm not joking when i say i used to tell my mom to take me the doc to remove my ovaries because i didn't want them....i can still see myself as a teenager, curled up on the bathroom floor, sweating and freezing at the same time...ugh!
I was eventually put on the pill when i had to go to the er once because of a horribly painful feeling i had. turns out i had many, many, many cysts on both of my ovaries and this was why i was in such pain. within 2 weeks i was at an OB and on the pill...
i was petrified of going off the pill to ttc - in fact - i may've posted at the time about it...but i was happily surprised that when i came off - my periods weren't ANYTHING like what they were - not even CLOSE. Yes - i still take midol or pamprin - but NOWHERE near as painful.
did it take time to conceive? yes - we were successful on our 9th month. AFTER we saw an RE and had a whole plan mapped out. I now fully believe that i mentally handed myself and my fertility over to him and i did tell him point blank, this is your problem now. once that happened, not 3 weeks later, BFP!
it's a hard process, it can be a slow process, but like anything WORTH WHILE in life, it's a very rewarding process!!!!!
fm me with any questions, any of you girls! my life is an open book!!!!

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
thank you for posting this- I am terrified that we wont be able to- I have been on bc forever- well at least it seems like- and dh and I are 31- not old but friends keep telling us that the older you are the harder it is... we are guessing it will take us around a year, that seems consistant with a lot of people we know

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
I should have gone in more pessimistically. I thought it would work first time. EVERYONE I am close to got a BFP FIRST TIME. So I thought that would be us too. Not so.... Onto month #4 for us. I would have been less devasted with a BFN had I thought this would be a long process from the start.

Re: For those who have recently started TTC or will be starting soon!!! ......
When I started last month I was very positive and I was even more when we got our BFP. Sadly, we miscarried soon after and now I don't know what to feel. It's like I wish it didn't happen the first month like that. It's such a range of emotions.
