For those who have been under general anesthesia...

I had surgery this morning and had to be put out. When I woke up, my eyelids felt like like when you rip a band-aid off of your skin and they still feel like that now. My vision is also a bit blurry - the computer screen seems a bit fuzzy.

Is this normal? I've never been put out before

Thanks!

Also, the corners of my eyes feel like they are really sunburned and are a little crusty Chat Icon

Vanessa,
It's all totally normal. The anesthesa throws your whole body for a loop and they do sometimes "tape" your eyelids shut during surgery so you might have a little reaction to the adhesive on the tape. Just drink plenty of fluids and listen to your body when it tells you to sleep! You need to recover not just from the surgery but from the anesthesia as well.

Lots and lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I hope you feel better quick!!! Take a pillow with you whenever you walk around. It helps to brace against your belly when you cough/walk/sneeze. Those muscles HURT!!

I'm resting up now - it's hard to find a comfy spot, though. Chat Icon

My eyes actually hurt more than the incisions!

I have had surgery and been under anesthesia. Your eyelids are sticky from tape. The doc. tapes your eyes shut. I noticed that when I woke up from my surgery as well. I was wondering the same thing.

Re: For those who have been under general anesthesia...

I had surgery as a teenager-

I remember my throat hurting really really badly. (and my surgery had nothing to do with my throat...)

and I was very nauseous - they wouldnt discharge me from the hospital until I ate and I refused, so my mother ate my sandwich when they werent looking. Chat Icon

I have had general a few times and my vision was blurry for a day or two.

Eyes burning, I don't recall that. Hope you feel better.
