For those taking Clomid
I am going to start to take this soon. Can anyone tell me what the side effects are and how you felt during taking them? Is it true what they say that woman 34 and over taking this have a greater risk for having twins?????

Re: For those taking Clomid
I'm 26 and they told me that because I was young and on clomid my chances of multiples increased.
I take clomid and I'm on HCG. The side effects I've been feeling are bloating and weight gain.

Re: For those taking Clomid
I did 2 cycles of clomid and did not experience any side effects other than an ovarian cyst...I also took it before bed so that maybe the reason... I have heard it increases your chances of multiples by 8-10%.
Are you being monitored by an RE?

Re: For those taking Clomid
I took 100mg and had zero side effects.
Any fertiltiy medication has a risk of multiples no matter how old you are.
Comid stimulates the ovaries to make follicles and in turn you could release more than one egg.
Do not take it if you are not ok with the possibilty of multiples.

Not sure if the weight gain is from the clomid, trigger shots, going off bcp or the stress from it all! I only gained about 4 lbs. The bloating is what is worse.

Re: For those taking Clomid
I've done 5 cycles of clomid, maximum dose of 200mg. The worst side affect for me in major hot flashes. I've produced as many as 5 mature follies. I've had to single pregnancies. My dd is a result of a clomid/iui cycle in 09, and now I am pg with dc#2 also from a clomid/iui cycle.

I would suggest going to an RE...I was on clomid for 2 cycles with my gyn and no monitoring and they were a complete waste since I wasnt being monitored...I also developed an ovarian cyst that if I was with a gyn would not have been known since they dont do u/s or bloodwork. This really is a drug that you should be monitored on...

Re: For those taking Clomid
how long do you have to wait while your trying on your own until you are given Clomid? Dh and I have been trying for 3 months now and while it doesn't sound like a long time, we are getting anxious and don't want to waste time if its not going to happen on its own (I have PCOS)

If you have PCOS I would suggest seeing an RE immediately...do you ovulate on your own? clomid is used to induce ovulation.

I just recently went off the BCP and in the last 3 months I have gotten my period on time. When I went to my OBGYN a few weeks ago I asked h ow to know if you were O'ing and she said you don't, not really, unless you use OPK's - I bought those last month but when i opened the box it says that if you have PCOS the results may not be accurate - I only used them for one month but i never got a positive that i was O'ing. I didn't do it this month to see what was going on. I am going on Monday to my OBGYN to get blood work done to see how my progesterone ? levels are... Any other way to know if you O?

It depends on your hormone levels...OPK's measure your LH...in some women with PCOS the LH levels are high so then the OPK will give false positives...which is why you should see an RE to get all your bloodwork done and they will monitor you while on clomid.

this is where i get confused and it sounds like a catch 22
Maybe someone can explain this so i can understand...
If you ovulate - you get your period...but just because you get your period, you don't necessarily ovulate - that's not what my OBGYN said, unless i misunderstood. so if i'm getting my period, i am def ovulating, right?

Re: For those taking Clomid
It is def confusing...I had to google it to find a straight forward answer:
A period occurs about 12 to 16 days after ovulation or the release of an egg. If ovulation does not occur, no egg is released, and hence technically there should be no bleeding at all. This is known as anovulation. In women where ovulation fails to occur because of an anovulatory disorder, bleeding can occur nevertheless. This is known as anovulatory bleeding and is not a normal menstrual period.

Re: For those taking Clomid
I start my 3rd cycle of clomid tomorrow. I only took 50mg the last 2 cycles but did not notice any side effects at all. I am going to be taking 100mg this time around so lets see what happens now. My RE said if I don't get PG this cycle he will give me something else for the next one.

Re: For those taking Clomid
When I took I didn't notice any side effects. I suggest taking it right before bed, that's what I always did, so any side effects would likely go unnoticed as you're sleeping.

Re: For those taking Clomid
i did 5 rounds of it and did not respond at all..only side effect was very hot flashes
i would rec going to a RE..my ob just gave me the pills, was never monitored and said have sex every other day for cd 10 -20
i never responded to the meds and she just kept upping them and u do not want to be on clomid for too long bc of what it can do to your lining
imo your doc needs to see how your body is responding to the meds, not to just give these pills and see what happens

read what u just wrote above..bottom line if u get ur period it does not mean u ovulated..i do not ovulate at all on my own and i get my period
if you have PCOS and suspect yuou may not be ovulating i would go see a RE,i would not waste time with a ob
i also would not use opk's bc they can be a false positive, temping would be better
good luck!
