For those on the fence about BFing.....
It is so hard but so worth it.
My DD is gaining weight beautifully and I am losing. I am officially 1 lb less than when I got pregnant at 4 weeks post partum.
It was really hard at first, but we have found a way to make it work.
I really think this played a huge role in losing the baby weight (35 lbs).
Just wanted to share.

Re: For those on the fence about BFing.....
I breast fed both my kids and will def do it again. My son read an article that said BF babies are smarter children. Also less alergies, etc. Best bonding experience to. hard to understand till you actually do it. I was sore the first few weeks with #1 but did much better with #2. If you are even considering it take a little class. Its worth it so you are the most successful you can be at it.

Re: For those on the fence about BFing.....
i bf my daughter for a year. lost 30 lbs in 2 weeks after giving birth. gained 55 with her. she was 9 13 to begin with but the weight came off. also a great bonding experience. after a month dd got lady and wanted a bottle so i pumped 3 times a day and produced enought to lose weight and to have a life. its hard to be on demand every 3 hours and this made life much easier. seh did not get sick for the first year of life due to this.

Re: For those on the fence about BFing.....
I always tell people who are on the fence that they should just try it for a week and see how they feel. You need to give it about a week to get use to it. For me it was such an amazing experience and I do feel that DD and I have a much closer relationship because of it. To this day she snuggles into me at bed time and holds onto my pinky just like she did when I was nursing her. I swear it melts my heart every time.

I totally agree! I am 6 weeks pp and about 5 lbs. away from my pre-pregnancy weight. The weight came off so fast (I gained 40) and my DD put on 2 lbs. in a month. My advice to anyone who wants to BF: read, read, read! I read up on it so much that I was nervous or anxious when I started. I recommend a book called Breastfeeding Made Simple. I picked it up at Borders when I was about 4 months. It simplifies everything and eases anxiety. I still refer back to it every few days!

Re: For those on the fence about BFing.....
what seems to be holding me back is the awkwardness of when you have company over. do you bf right there in front of everyone? do you excuse yourself? it seems awkward to me. Especially when you are in the hospital and everyone is there visiting and its time to feed the baby. you have no where to go and I feel like everyone would be uncomfortable.

Re: For those on the fence about BFing.....
i dont post here much (im really a poster on parenting)- but i venture here once in a while. ill add about BFing- def tough- i am SO glad i had my cousin to help me thru it (it hurt for a little and was hard the first couple weeks)...after that, a BREEZE, and wanna know what???
i had gained 25 pounds with DD, and lost almost 50 by the 6 month mark, all from bfing (bc trust me, iw as still eating my oreos and doritos!!)....
but again, i wont lie...i stopped bfing her after a year, (and continued with the doritos) and gained about 11 pounds back...but overall, i remained 10-15 pounds below the weight i was before i got pregnant with her...
i will be doing the same this pregnancy...but i will BF for longer- i miss it!!!

I wasn't very modest in front of my immediate family while BFing in the hospital or even at home. When company comes over, I excuse myself. I am looking into buying a shawl or wrap. It did stink on Christmas having to go into the next room every 2 1/2- 3 hours but I would make my sis or DH come keep me company. I wish our society was more accepting of it, so I could just whip my boob out and feed my kid!

Re: For those on the fence about BFing.....
I'll add my 2 cents.
Though I am 4 weeks post partum, I am not loosing weight anymore, BUT, its definitely worth it. Besides the no bottles to wash, when DD wakes up in the middle of the night she doesn't have to wait for a bottle to heat up and all that (crying hysterically) I stick the boob in her mouth and off she goes.
Also, I had issues with her weight gain (and her eating in the begining) and went to a lactation consultant who helped tremendously!
My advice, if you are having issues, don't give up but get help. Its really worth it in the end!
