? for any moms who are overweight.

Hi ladies i was reading some of the posts about moms who are wondering how much weight to gain and i started thiking. i am overweight now. and i am almost 12 weeks my doc has made it clear that i dont need to gain alot of weight. he kinda said if i lost weight being on a gestational diabetes diet (which i have started now since i have had it before) that it was ok. now i also have a thyroid issue. (underactive) so i am becoming a bit paranoid about gaining weight. are any of you ladies in the same boat?

Re: ? for any moms who are overweight.

I was overweight when I started my first pregnancy. I actually ended up losing weight throughout my entire pregnancy and after I gave birth I was about 25lbs lighter than when I started. Now, of course I've gained it all back since then, but it was great. I did have gestational diabetes and followed the diabetic diet. I was also VERY sick in the first trimester so I lost some weight there, too.

There is absolutely no problem with losing weight during pregnancy. But the diabetic diet does suck when you are craving a cheeseburger and fries!

Re: ? for any moms who are overweight.

I have been overweight my whole life. Sometimes more, sometimes less..but when I got pg I was at an all-time "high". My previous OB (when I m/cd) told me I could not gain one single pound.

The OB I have now has not discussed my weight with me at all. I have gained 14 lbs so far and I am 36 weeks almost. I think if you are overweight you may not gain as much as other women...but I would have liked not to gain any. I also think if I had been thinner my belly would be cuter, and I would have felt the baby sooner.

I do not have GD.

Re: ? for any moms who are overweight.

I was on a strict diet before getting pregnant because of an illness I have. They told me to enjoy my pregnancy, but no need to gain too much. Well, I'm gaining more than I should, but oh well. Baby is healthy and I'm still healthy. Once I give birth, I have to go back on the strict diet. I never had morning sickness though, so I never lost weight due to that.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon

I have been overweight since my first pregnancy and basically been up and down since!!! This pregnancy I start @ 235lbs then lost it until I got to 201lbs(I was like Chat Icon Chat Icon then I was like Chat Icon Chat Icon worried about the baby) NOW I'm @ 250lbs. Dr. said it was ok that you should gain from your original weight anywhere between 20-35lbs. Just try not to gain it all in one month! Chat Icon

Re: ? for any moms who are overweight.

I am overweight and 22 weeks pg. I have lost 11lbs since I've gotten PG. My doctor said that she does not want me to lose anymore weight. I have not been sick much at all during this pregnancy- but my appetite isnt what it used to be- and I'm also eating more healthy than before I was pg.

Re: ? for any moms who are overweight.

I was Overweight before the PG...my Dr. Said no more then a 15 lb weight gain would be ideal.

I have lost a lot of weight due to extended nausea and morning sickness and am up to maybe 6-7 lbs now at 34 weeks and they feel thats fine.

The other Dr. Said 5-20 lbs is ideal for someone overweight.

I was overweight when I got pg and my doc said 15-25 lb. is the range but 15 lb. would be ideal.
