Yeah they had a legacy system that is dos based. It ran on a FoxPro db. It was a pain when I had to look at the database and edit the config files. Nobody wanted to support it so testing got the brunt of the issues as well as all the new HIPPA updates. ANSI837 was no much fun. Try reading the implementation guides.

I'm tech support now, but in NY i used to work at a hospital maintaining their hardware and running reports and stuff on our system. I worked for Keane, and the new system we installed was called Patcom. Switched the hospital from terminals to pc's with terminal emulators.

What do you use now? We made the transition from legacy to PeopleSoft a few years ago.

Network Admin... but my actual title is even more vague...

I do everything from tech support to a bit of programming (mostly Access databases, a little VB, with some SQL thrown in), to helping out the WAN guys from time to time. Just got back from replacing yet another Dell mobo...

DH and I also own our own business, and one of our clients is also a medical practice that has gone paperless, we are running EClinical Works there.

The company I worked for has an Oracle version that was written in delphi and they also have an EMR version that is .net based. Now that I work in the hospital we don't use anything like that.

Primarily Engineering Tools Support. We have Electrical Engineers,Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, Circuit board designers, and a few others. I'm part of the small team that installs all of their software apps, fixes them when they break, administer the tools, etc, etc.

Started out as a Software Engineer, writing DOS and Windows applications, device drivers, libraries, installation packages, etc. to talk to military hardware.

Then switched to another company to maintain all of the IT stuff. Buying PCs, servers, printers, networks. Maintaining all of that. Fixing whatever broke.

Switched to a bigger company, doing mostly the same thing, but moving toward application support. When that company merged with the parent company, I left most of the day-to-day desktop repairs, and went to primarily application support.

I've been up since 3AM due to technical issues. Now I have a 4PM conference call. So much for leaving early.

If one more person comes up to me and says "So, you had an exciting morning today huh" I'm gonna Chat Icon them.

I think in an hour or two I am seriously going to close my office door and nap for a bit. If only I had my fuzzy slippers and pillow I'd be SET!

Nice!! I'll have to think of my order. I'll take 2 users who have a clue, a large hammer, and a side of new expletives to use.

Ha, that's my favorite response.

its a 1 D 10-T error.

Or, the problem is between the keyboard and the chair.

Re: For all those in the IT field..what do you do?

We had a user who submitted a WAN problem the other day. She included a screen shot of the error that said "user name / password incorrect". She said the new WAN circuit was causing her error. Oh yeah. The screen shot also showed that she was losing at a game of solitaire. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
