And if we are going to split hairs... how healthy is pizza? Tomato sauce made from tomatoes grown with...gasp...pesticides! Cheese made with milk made bwith hormones. Flour made from wheat with GMOs. And forget what's in that cake! Birthday parties should be banned! Put the kids in a bubble... stat!
So true.. I couldn't agree with you more!

If you want to stick with McDonalds because that is what your son likes, then do it! Your friends kids can have grilled chicken or yogurt parfait!
My son eats only a white slice of pizza. He doesn't like sauce.
If it gets to be to much, you can never go wrong with a sandwich platter and salads.

Re: Food at 4th bday party
Nope. McDonalds or nothing imo. If the parents are restrictive they should already have a plan in place for times when they are presented with this problem. Ftr we give our kids mostly organic, no additives, etc at home. Out in the world, at a party, I say yes to things like McDonalds. But that's me. I feel that if I control 90% of their intake at this age without making them feel deprived or like an oddball, I'm doing a great job. My point is that all that is MY personal prerogative, and if I didn't allow McDonalds at all, that's MY problem. Also the lif world doesn't always reflect my experiences- 9 out of 10 moms posting on here will be horrified by McDonalds and in real life I find 1 out of 10 horrified!

. And 2. I think it's kind of mean of you to turn around and bash your friends for their decisions regarding their own children just because it doesn't work as well for you - especially when you are asking them. I could say more but I will leave it at that.
Can you please let me know when exactly I bashed my friends? Not agreeing with their logic, is not bashing their decision. And I will not order to accommodate other children and then have my DS, the birthday boy, have to eat something different. He already has to do that at every other party. I will not have him be the odd man out at his own party.
I only threw out the other suggestion of what I did since it seemed to be an issue that was bothering u. I never suggested that it was something you had to do. Also, for the record, I agree with the others that you can provide whatever you want at the party and the guests should just deal - it's a 2 hr birthday party the kids can eat before or after and, frankly, in life you just cannot accommodate everyone! I do stand by what I said that your post was a little mean towards your friends (the eye-rolling and other commentary). I feel it was unnecessary - it's their child, if they don't want to feed them McD's for whatever reason it's their choice. And, from your post it doesn't seem like they asked or expected you to provide alternative food for their children? Also, if you are going to ask people which option their children prefer - you may get some people who tell you their child does not eat burgers/chicken nuggets (just like your child doesn't eat pizza). That said, it doesn't mean they are expecting you to provide an alternative which, again, I do NOT think you should do! I hope it works out and hope your son has a great party!

I think if you offer an alternative to the people that won't eat it, you open yourself up to a bunch of other kids saying they want what the other kids have, not the McDonald's. I would just get the McDonald's. If they don't eat it, they don't. Most kids don't even eat at birthday parties anyway! They take one bite and they are done. It's beyond wasteful!

You can NEVER please everyone. I wouldn't expect another option if my kid didnt like what was on the menu. You get what you get and you don't get upset. We teach it to our kids yet adults can't follow it. Worst case, eat at home.

Food at 4th bday party
DO McDonald's for the kids and a sandwich or deli tray for the adults. I like the idea of having a fruit salad also to add a fruit, but that would be all I would add extra. You can't please everyone so just leave it at this. I would let parents know what you are serving so they could prepare if they needed to. For my dd's birthday we did a deli tray for the adults and home made spaghetti adn bread for the kids. It was a huge hit! SImple, easy, quick, and cheap!

Re: Food at 4th bday party
I wouldn't want my DH to leave in the middle of a party to pick up food.
Could you pick a restaurant that delivers?
For DS's 4th bday party, we ordered from a local Italian restaurant. We had a mix of pizza, sandwiches and other appetizers. The food was delivered about 30 min after the start of the party in time for lunch.
As for the original question, I personally would cater to my guests. I would be more likely to cater to my guests than myself or child. If I were you, I'd pick pizza over mcdonalds and then maybe bring a lunch for my own child who does not like pizza.

Food at 4th bday party
I wouldn't offer another option. As long as they all know before hand that you are serving McDonalds, then if they don't want their kids to eat it, that's their problem. There has been many times my DD hasn't liked the food given at a party and I never looked for a substitute. I would get a ton of fries though because the kids devour them!

Re: Food at 4th bday party
I wouldn't offer anything else, and my 4 yo doesn't eat McDonalds (except the fries, lol).
Just for the record, I like McDonald's 1-2 x month but didn't want DS eating it when he was very young. One day DH and I were eating it and he started taking some fries. He liked them, we thought it was cute and were fine with it (he's a good and healthy eater). At age 4, we decided that we'd let him try McD's to see if he liked it. He hated it, wouldn't eat the cheeseburger. And he's the type that eats all types of things.
You can't please everyone at a party. There will always be some child or adult that doesn't like what you serve. I personally usually make sure that my child has eaten something prior to a party (he's not a picky eater though) bc you never know for sure what time they'll serve the food or bc it's way past his lunch time. You can't cater to everyone.
