Folic Acid - 400mg or 800mg?
I believe the prenatals I've ever taken only had 400mg and that was the recommended dosage?  They're prescription one's too. Has that changed?
ETA: Should I be taking a different prenatal? I've only taken Prenate Elite for about 6 years now. But like I said I checked the website for ingredients and it says that it only has 400mg of folic acid? WDYT?

I think 400 mg is recommended for women of childbearing age since it is so important "if" you got pregnant. I take the CVS brand pre natals and they have 950 I think. SOme girls just take a regular vitamin with a folic acid supplement. If you are TTC I think the recommended allowance is up to 1000 mg.

My doctor said I should be getting 800mg. She told me to take One-A-Day which has 400mg and another supplement of folic acid to add up to 800mg....so thats what Im doing

my dr said 800mg is the folic acid dose. she told me to take women's one a day prenatal

Really? I wonder why the prescription Prenatal I have and have been taking doesn't have that? I guess things change. I can't ask my doctor since I just met with her this past week.
Maybe I'll just try another prenatal?

I want to up it too at least until my current prescription runs out. I just refilled it too last week.
Then maybe I'll change to Target brand prenatals. My doctor even said they were fine, and that half her patients take them. She said just don't tell the pharmaceutical companies she said that!

I heard about 3 months before TTC. I just got off the pill recently so Ive only been taking it for a couple of weeks and Im TTC

Just make sure you're getting 800mg of folic acid.... Im taking the One-A- Day and another supplement of 400 mg of folic acid to make it 800.
