Flu help

My 3 year old daughter was diagnosed with the flu on Monday. She started showing symptoms on Sunday. Since yesterday all she wants to do is sleep I have to wake her just to get her to drink and eat something. Then she's not up for more than an hour and a half before she wants to sleep again. The ped said this is normal but I am not sure. She is my first so it's my first experience with flu/fever. Anyone else's DC have the flu and if so did they sleep a lot and how long did it last? Thanks.

Flu help

I'm sure that's normal. When you're sick don't you want to sleep all day? When she is up tho make sure she is staying hydrated and give pedialyte. Hope she feels better soon.

Re: Flu help

Never had the flu here, but a few weeks ago I took DS to the doctors bc he had a fever and was sick. He had a flu vaccine in Sept, but the Ped wanted to test for the flu anyway bc of his glassy eyes. He also said the fact that he's so alert and in good spirits is a reason he thought it may not be the flu or if he had it not a bad case.
Anyway, while waiting for the results he did say if DS had the flu he'd have a fever on and off for days and be very lethargic, sleepy, etc. It wound up being a virus.
Keep giving her fluids along with the Advil and Tylenol. Hope she feels better soon.

Re: Flu help

I am going to Dr later today for myself. I have either the flu, bronchitis, or pneumonia- not sure which yet. But I can tell you that I have been in bed for two days now. I'm just beat. The fever is kicking my ass. I only feel good after I take Advil for the fever. That's when I eat or drink.
I know it's awful to watch your little one so sick, but I think it's normal. Just let her rest and do your best to keep her comfortable. Try to get her yo eat and drink about an hour after you give her a fever reducer.

It's completely normal. My 17 month old DS just had the flu a month ago and he was the same way. I'd wake him to eat and drink and take his Tamiflu. Hope your DD feels better soon!!

Re: Flu help

Thanks guys I have been worried sick. Her doctor didn't prescribe anything though he just has me alternating between Tylenol and Advil for the fever. Luckily when she's awake she's very defiant so that makes me feel better LOL. I just hate seeing her so tired, she wants to be carried everywhere and won't let me leave her side. It's exhausting.
