Flood insurance
Do you have a Flood insurance policy in addition to your homeowners policy?
With the possible hurricane on it's way, everyone at work (insurance company) is talking about how it would be stupid to not have it, especially since it's a low premium.
So just curious... how many have it and don't have it?
I got quoted for it and it's only $388 a year.

Re: Flood insurance
We don't have it. We are not in a flood area.

Re: Flood insurance
my Dh and i are on the fence about getting flood ins in florida....i believe its $326 a year....my parents only got it b/c they have a septic tank and they are worried that will back up - if they didnt have the septic they wouldnt have the coverage....
in Florida we have hurricane coverage - so if we get a flood due to a hurricane we are covered - but only if it's a named HURRICANE (tropical storms = no coverage)....
there are no basements in florida....obviously the ground floor can still be flooded from a bad rain storm or tropical storm and that wont be covered for us without the flood ins....hurricane ins will cover a flood from a hurricane and homeowners will cover floods that happen from within the house (meaning if something in the house leaks)....
i thought flood ins was going to be a must have but everyone we talked to in the area we are buying is like ehhhh, you dont really need it unless you are in a flood zone, which we are not....
we might add it on later - but in florida you have to pay 15 months ahead in escrow for ins - so if we decide to add it on we are doing it outside of closing/escrow
