flipping over during diaper changes?! is this a phase??
DS is 9 months old and for the past 3 weeks or so he's decided that anytime he gets his diaper changed he's going to flip over onto his belly and attempt to crawl away. It doesnt matter if he's on the floor, bed, or changing table...he attempts it everywhere. I barely have time to get the diaper off his bottom and he's already flipping over. It was funny at first, but when he has a particularly dirty diaper and I dont even have a chance to wipe him clean, it's just gross 
I've tried holding him down but he wiggles his way free, I've tried occupying his attention with a toy or something to play with but that lasts mere seconds before he wants to turn over. I've tried a firm "no" but at 9 months he just doesnt seem to know what that means yet (or doesnt care  ). I'm at a loss and diaper changes are becoming impossible! I dread them everyday and I dont even know if I can leave him with a babysitter because if I cant change his diaper how the heck is someone else going to do it??
Does anyone else's DC do this? Please tell me its a phase  is there anything I can do to break him of doing this?

My DS did the same thing. To be honest, for him it hasn't been a phase. He will only stay in one position for his teachers. DH and I have to change him while he's standing up.  Can't wait for potty training!

My DS is doing the exact same thing and honestly the only thing that seems to stop him in his tracks is if I sing the Toys R Us theme song...

DS is the same age and doing the same thing, it's becoming impossible to change him! I hope it's only a phase!

Same for us! It is a faze. I try to distract him with a toy or the TV remote!

DD does this - it's definitely a phase.....unfortunately in our house that phase ended and was replaced by a standing up during diaper changes phase!!!

It's a VERY LONG phase!!!!!
The more and more mobile they get, the harder the diaper changes become.
My DD is 14 months old and has been doing this since around 7 months.

My DS is 7 1/2 mo. and does this too...it's so annoying  It's a phase I think all babies go through.
I give DS a toy to chew on while I change him or sing to him or make silly noises with my mouth. Anything to try to keep him on his back. He does it while I am trying to dress him too.

If it's a phase it's a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally long one. DS is still doing this at 14 months, as a matter of fact it's only gotten worse since when he started. Sometimes he won't even lay down so I have to change him standing up, other times I change him while he's on all fours, changing is definitely a challenge. Something that used to be so simple has turned into something I can't stand doing because it's so frustrating to get him to stay still.

I wish I could say its a phase, but for DS, he's been doing this since about 6 months and now at 15 months, its worse. You have to distract them. And sometimes, he'll throw a fit when I hold him down, but its the only way.

I was told this was a phase and it will get better....and I am hoping to see light at the end of the tunnel, but it doesn't look good for us
It began at 7 months and DS is almost 13....and he is sooooo strong!

Nope... not a phase or a very long one b/c DS has been doing this since 7 mons and now at 10.5 months still does this.
I now change him on my bed. At night when I get him in his PJ's I put on Yo Gabba Gabba and get him changed and ready for bed. It's the easiest 5 mins b/c he'll watch TV and I can get things done.
OH... unless you have some laundry on the bed. Last night he didn't want to watch and just throw the clothes all over

You just have to find the right thing to distract...if one toy doesnt work, try another....like a PPer said remote is a good one...or my cell phone or a baby wipe to play peek-a-boo!

ds been doing this since he learned to roll over from back to belly at 5.5 months. i distract him by singing a song or tickling him..

I keep telling them if they don't want me to change their diapers they need to learn how to use the toilet.

DS is almost 11 months and has been doing it for months!! It is just getting worse and worse. Toys don't help anymore, my cell phone doesn't work anymore..I am at a loss! He just screams and screams...UGH!

em does it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm petrified she's going to go over the side...
i give her taboo things - vitamin bottles, things she's NOT normally allowed to play with. that seems to work - but gives me a maybe 1 minute window to get her onesie off and old diaper off and new one on. she usually then is flipping by the time i try to get the third button on the onesie bottom closed.

LOL, that's what I've been saying. If you don't want me to change you, then its time for the potty!
