I love when people say move to Roosevelt. Roosevelt is no more diverse than Massapequa. Those who truly want diversity would not move to any neighborhood where one race is the majority of the neighborhood- whether that race is white, black, Asian, or Hispanic.

I am curious if there is a magical utopia neighborhood on long island where there is true diversity, like a quarter white, black, hispanic, and asian. The only place where that seems to exist is at St Francis Prep and Sewhanaka High School. Drive by those 2 schools at dismissal, you can see it. Both schools draw kids from various neighborhoods.

There isn't some perfect utopia, but there are definitely areas that are more diverse. Diversity doesn't mean each race has to have equal representation.
As a few PP mentioned (quoting makes everything too long lol) Valley Stream has great schools. So does Port Washington, Malverne, Baldwin, East Meadow, New Hyde Park. Some of those districts have a slight majority white, or Asian, or black. But it is not the overwhelming majority. Valley Stream 13 is an EXCELLENT district. When DH & I were house hunting we did look there, and so many people turned their noses and said they would never move there because of the schools. What they meant is the schools weren't white enough.

I'm curious if there are many areas here that are truly considered diverse. I think you'll probably find more diversity outside NY than you will in it. Even the great melting pot that is NYC is highly segregated. Everyone knows the Russian, Polish, Greek, Italian, Hispanic, Caribbean, Indian, Asian, black, Jewish, Hasidic, etc neighborhoods. Even in neighborhoods that are considered "mixed" you'll find ethnic clusters (south of 1st Ave is all Asian, north is all Russian - or whatever). I don't think NY, at least this part of it, is a true representation of diversity.

I suggested if they felt so passionate about it, then they should put some action and meat into their virtue signaling and sell their home and move to Wyandanch, Brentwood, Roosevelt, Central Islip, etc... and become part of the change they want to see. Living, not just working, but owning a home, sending their own children to schools in those communities and interacting on a daily basis in those communities.
I also said they should be writing their representatives, going on social media, screaming from the rooftops to allow free choice in schools and merge the districts. Kids from Hempstead, Uniondale, Roosevelt can attend schools in Great Neck, Roslyn, Wantagh, Syosset, Manhasset, Jericho. Kids in Brentwood, Central Islip, Wyandanch can attend schools in Commack, 3H, Smithtown, Port Jeff, Northport, Mount Sinai.
But no.
Not in my backyard.
You see, so much easier to chastise others and to become a mouthpiece for minorities and parade around in shirts for marginalized groups and preach on woke policies, so long as at the end of the day, they don’t have to see those same people they have now become the bullhorn for, driving down their block and parking in the driveway in the house across the street.
I could be wrong but just an observation.

I can't speak to Sewhanaka, but Catholic high schools in Queens tend to be racially diverse. Since they aren't zoned, they pull from all over the borough.
Even those who grow up in the whitest of areas in Queens (some of which I would argue make any part of LI look like a diverse, liberal stronghold) will never get past the age of 15 without having friends, or at least acquaintances from a variety of ethnic backgrounds if they attend any non-zoned high school.

Alllllllll of this!! I grew up and lived in the city until a few years ago and even there, yes there in the "cultural melting pot" of NYC there is a big bunch of virtue signalers. They hated the GOP, wore all the virtue signaling clothing, marched, screamed etc but if/when it was time to integrate the schools or neighborhoods with POC all of a sudden there were issues, push back, etc. The biggest hypocrites EVER. I will stand by my thoughts that white liberals are some of the biggest racists out there.
ETA: you can scream and cry from your gated communities and counties with 90% caucasian population and low crime, but until you willingly pull your family to live in an area with high poverty and crime and deal with all the issues that are a result of that environment, you do NOT have any clue on how people have to survive. Your bogus virtue signaling and fake outrage does SHIT to help those communities, it just makes you a hypocrite. PERIOD. Unless you are willing to go into the trenches, get dirty, do the ugly things and make real changes with real results, which obviously the dems have failed to accomplish for decades, you should just sit down and keep your mouths closed.

I think in most areas you'll find that "like groups" of people tend to settle together because it's familiar and comfortable due to a shared culture, language, background, etc. This is true going all the way back to the days of immigration. Lack of diversity in an area isn't always this malicious attempt to avoid other groups of people, I think that generally speaking people just tend to gravitate to what they know and are comfortable with.
Everyone has the capacity to be empathetic towards others and tolerant of people's differences regardless of where you settle. Being a good human doesn't mean you need to be "in the trenches", it means you do what you can to NOT be a part of the problem.

I suggested if they felt so passionate about it, then they should put some action and meat into their virtue signaling and sell their home and move to Wyandanch, Brentwood, Roosevelt, Central Islip, etc... and become part of the change they want to see. Living, not just working, but owning a home, sending their own children to schools in those communities and interacting on a daily basis in those communities.
I also said they should be writing their representatives, going on social media, screaming from the rooftops to allow free choice in schools and merge the districts. Kids from Hempstead, Uniondale, Roosevelt can attend schools in Great Neck, Roslyn, Wantagh, Syosset, Manhasset, Jericho. Kids in Brentwood, Central Islip, Wyandanch can attend schools in Commack, 3H, Smithtown, Port Jeff, Northport, Mount Sinai.
But no.
Not in my backyard.
You see, so much easier to chastise others and to become a mouthpiece for minorities and parade around in shirts for marginalized groups and preach on woke policies, so long as at the end of the day, they don’t have to see those same people they have now become the bullhorn for, driving down their block and parking in the driveway in the house across the street.
I could be wrong but just an observation.
I think there is a lot of truth behind this, unfortunately.
I have to say I get a kick out of this...but for all the wrong reasons.

I'm the one who brought up Hofstra's ass and her husband's money, as is almost a daily occurrence in almost every thread to bring up this guy and his money and his wife not working and their children and the size and location of their home I lose sleep at night over Hofstra's home life. I also said they should be writing their representatives, going on social media, screaming from the rooftops to allow free choice in schools and merge the districts. Kids from Hempstead, Uniondale, Roosevelt can attend schools in Great Neck, Roslyn, Wantagh, Syosset, Manhasset, Jericho. Kids in Brentwood, Central Islip, Wyandanch can attend schools in Commack, 3H, Smithtown, Port Jeff, Northport, Mount Sinai.

You see, so much easier to chastise others and to become a mouthpiece for minorities and parade around in shirts for marginalized groups and preach on woke policies, so long as at the end of the day, they don’t have to see those same people they have now become the bullhorn for, driving down their block and parking in the driveway in the house across the street.

I have to say I get a kick out of this...but for all the wrong reasons.
You have sooooo many people on this site spouting “you’re racist, racist, racist, that’s racist, I’m better than everyone because I’m not racist” and the fact of the matter is none of these people would take their husband’s money and move to one of the aforementioned towns. Are you REALLY for critical race theory? Then take your fat ass and your two kids and your hubs and move to Roosevelt instead of some bucolic setting in another state.

I was quoted but I didn’t call anyone racist or try to say I was better than anyone. I was just saying everyone sucks, regardless of politics.
I also don’t have 2 kids. And I definitely don’t need my husband’s money to do anything. I bust my size 4 ass at work every single day to have what I have.

Yes, you're right. I'm the one who brought up Hofstra's ass and her husband's money, as is almost a daily occurrence in almost every thread to bring up this guy and his money and his wife not working and their children and the size and location of their home I lose sleep at night over Hofstra's home life.
