Flat Head

My DS is 16 weeks and the back of his head is a little flatter than the DR would like. I've tried putting him on his side/stomach for naps recently and he wakes up immediately. In my opinion, his head isn't that bad but I know it is flatter than it should be. DH always makes jokes about it and I feel bad cause I'm just a paranoid first time mom who was afraid to leave DS on his stomach for naps lol. Anyone have any tips? TIA

Try to keep diligent about having him lay on the other side. They actually make a hat or something to help with it. I saw it at BRU.

Re: Flat Head

You can try the noggin nest which is supposed to help for back sleeping. If you are concerned though I highly recommend make an appt with a neurologist in case you need a helmet. That process can take a few months so you don't want to delay to long and end up with a worse problem. DS1 had a helmet.

Flat head is so normal these days since they tell you to keep baby on back. Try to move the head so they are resting on the other side.

I had my DS see a neuro at 3 months. By about 8 months it was almost gone. We saw a marked difference when DS started sleeping on his belly at 4 months.

Once he can roll you can try to have him sleep on his belly for naps. Also lots and lots of tummy time. And if you have a baby carrier that can work also. I slowly weaned off the bouncer and swing at around 4 months when I noticed DD's head was getting flat. Now she's fine

My dr never thought it was a problem but both of my kids had flat heads. It corrected once they started rolling over and sleeping on their bellies, I'd guess around 5 mos.

Re: Flat Head

DS also had a flat head.. I had him looked at 3 months old and he had a helmet by 4 months. He also needed PT for tortocollis. Best thing we ever did, his head looks great today at 5 years old!
Unfortunately most efforts to reposition, use a noggin nest etc dont work.
I would have him looked at by an Orthotist and get a baseline. If it doesnt improve by a certain period of time you will know for sure and then can decide if you want to do a helmet etc. Some cases will correct themselves but unfortunately not all will
My orthotist said typically if problem is not corrected by 6 months, you probably need a helmet
