Flags on overpasses on LIE
Anyone know why the fire departments are hanging flags on all the over passes on the LIE this morning? DW saw them hanging them this morning and said it looked rally cool. I guess they are pretty big flags

it a mass funeral for soldiers whose remains were unclaimed. Its at calverton today, The LIE will be closed eastbound around 11am as per news12

My dad is working that funeral today, It is sad.

I saw the processional pass asn I drove Westbound and I was in tears  .
At first I saw 1 hearse, then 2, then 3.....
I couldn't hold back the emotion

I ended up seeing this on news 12. I was so touched that they did this. It made me sad that they had no family to bury them. Seeing the flags this mourning touched my heart before even knowing what they were for.

We owe a great thanks to the Campbell Funeral home for their help..........
On January 8th 30 homeless veterans will be buried in a mass grave at
the U.S. National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I.
These veterans died, some in the street, some at hospitals. Their
remains are in various NYC morgues.
Missing Person Squad morgue Detectives printed and identified them,
but found no one to claim them.
All have military records.
They were heading for Wards Island (Potter's Field) when the Campbell
funeral home stepped in.
They contacted the Mayor and received
permission to remove and inter the bodies at Calverton. Officials at
Calverton will provide a mass grave for all 30. Campbell has arranged
hearse transport for all.
