First sore throat and fever
Hi Ladies, At what point should I be concerned with DD not eating due to her symptoms? I have taken her to the DR twice since Sat and they keep saying its a viral infection in her throat so they can't give her anything. She has not eaten anything since Sat. Yesterday I was able to get her to take one bite of what I was eating but then she refused anymore. She won't even drink her milk but is drinking juice watered down. She drink as much as I give her of that. She isn't lethargic and is playing during the day so should I just keep offering her food and leave her be if she doesn't want it? This is her first sore throat and fever so we aren't sleeping at night at all. They said to give Benadryl last night and it did nothing so I ended up giving her Motrin at 2am so should would finally sleep. I was planning on calling ped today to see if I can give them at same time or within an hour of eachother because the Benadryl didn't dry her up at all. Last night I gave them within 4 hours of each other. Any advice to make her more comfortable at night would be greatly appreciated also! Thanks!

Re: First sore throat and fever
I know when I have a sore throat taking a pain killer helps it feel better. If it were my children I would have them on motrin around the clock. That way they may eat BC it does not hurt as badly.

Re: First sore throat and fever
I have been giving every 6 hours as per the ped but she still is not interested in eating. I've tried ice pops, italian ices, apple sauce and yogurt and she just wants no part. I am sure her taste is off so maybe that's why but I am just afraid when she is better she will be afraid to eat in fear her throat will hurt. Thanks for the advice!

Just me, but I wouldn’t force it if you’re afraid she’ll then hate food due to the pain. I mean she will HAVE to eat at one point. But yes, I use motrin to reduce the swelling and then Tylenol to reduce the pain. Honey to coat and then just let her dictate what she’s willing to eat. I’d give cold bananas as an option, bread, rice (for us), and anything else she likes like veggies and fruits. Basically, if she’s sick things don’t taste right, don’t feel right and just don’t interest her but sooner or later she comes back to normal. As long as she keeps hydrated and isn’t showing other signs of distress I let her lead the way but yes I offer foods just not really push them. (JMHO)

Thanks for the advice. I'll continue to offer and not force her. I really can't wait for her to feel better! This is day 4 and I am dying to sleep in my own bed again! Thanks!
