First post!
Hi ladies,
Im brand spanking new here...I have a quick question...When taking pre-natal vitamins did you take addl folic acid (since the pre-natals are low in folic) on top of that or is folic acid more for when you get pregnant?

Re: First post!
My target brand prenatals have 800 mcg of folic acid so I'm not taking extra. My doctor said over the counter is fine when TTC

Re: First post!
My pre-natals have 800 folic acid. I do not take an additional folic acid. I do take a DHA supplement.

Re: First post!
My doctor had told me to take at least 1000 mcg of Folic acid when I was TTC DC#1. I took over the counter prenatals (Natures Made), and an additional Folic Acid supplement, which gave me 1200 mcg in total. He told me that they were perfectly fine thoughout my last pregnancy, so I have been taking the same vitamins ever since. I take them with my breakfast and have never had a problem with them.

I also take the Citra Natal Assure. It contains 1000mg of folic acid with DHA so no additional supplement iis required. It also contains stool softener. (Sorry if it's TMI ). It does make me nauseous so I take them right before I go to bed. Rx prenatals are usually more expensive. I pay $50 for the Citra Natal / month with my insurance discount. You can get a manufacturers coupon from your Dr. It came with my free sample, $10 off the next 10 refills, so I pay only $40. Hope this helps.
