First OB appointment Question

I just got my BFP yesterday and I made an appointment with my Doctor for May 11th. I'm figuring I'll be 6 weeks.

Here's my question -- I just checked out my Dr's website to fill out a form and it gives the breakdown for the appiontments and it says for the first appointment they don't do sono's (they do an exam, history and bloodwork)

Did anyone else's Doc not do a sono? I was looking forward to it....

Re: First OB appointment Question

well my first appt was at 5w just to do bloodwork to confirm the pregnancy. my 2nd appt was a sonogram at 7w because i had mild cramping so better safe than sorry they wanted to do a sono. but my first big appt with the dr was at 9w and i got a sono again, a pap, a consult, and then bloodwork...9 vials!Chat Icon

maybe they'll do the sono a few weeks later. because i know most drs wont even see you until you're at least 8 weeks.

Re: First OB appointment Question

A lot of doctors wont do a sono that early on cause they don't want to cause undo worry to the mother if everything doesn't look like they would normally expect at that point, it's just too touch and go that early on. So a lot of docs will wait till your at least 8 weeks. If they dont do one at the first visit, then I'm sure you'll be back soon after for your first sono cause they'll want to make sure baby is developing properly. HTH! Chat Icon

Re: First OB appointment Question

Thanks ladies. I went back and looked and it says for the 10-12 week appt that they check the heartbeat.

Waiting for these appts are almost as bad as the 2WW!
