Ahh ok, this is what I was wondering. My Ped does them at 2 months and it seemed like a long time to me...

Hepatitis B vaccines are on the vaccine schedule for ONE reason....it is much easier to vaccinate as babies than it is when they are of age to be using IV drugs or having risky sex. Hepatitis B is a blood borne pathogen that is transmitted through Blood contact with an infected person. Unless your newborn is going to be engaging in risky, dangerous behaviors, there is no need to have the vaccine, and certainly not so quickly after birth. Even 2 months old, for all those ingredients, is too young. Check out the label insert before consenting to this unnecessary shot for your baby.

Re: First immunizations

I haven't had my lo yet so I don't have an answer. But my pediatricians did recommend that we stick to the schedule that they have (even tho they would be willing to work with us if we had strong opinions) because all the vaccines and combined and timed in a certain way to make it the best timeline for baby. If vaccines start moving around, other vaccines also have to be shifted around to compensate, and that's not a good scenario. They may have to postpone something else to squeeze this in later on if its not a good combo.

Couldnt agree more! We are using an alternative schedule that my pediatrician recommends.
I advise you to do your own personal research on this since this is a VERY touchy subject and you will get a million opinions.

Im personally in the school of thought that injecting all these vaccines into a tiny babys body whose systems are not mature enough to handle is harmful. Im not against vaccines I think they need them 100% BUT allow their bodies time to mature and do only whats REALLY necessary at the time. If your child is not going into daycare then look into an alternative schedule and if not and you want to follow the regular one then by all means do what your comfotable with. Just do some research and go into without accepting blindly what your dr says. Every Dr doesnt know everything and some may have more info than others on this subject.

My DD is 6 months and still hasnt gotten hep b. I dont think shes having sex or doing iv drugs at this time. My DD is also not in daycare therefore I dont have to worry about her being around strange children/adults/places where I dont know. Everyone has different situations and different reasons for doing more vaccines.

There are a lot of perservatives and additives added to these vaccines. Do research and you will see.
