First Glucose Test Question
I'm going for my first test this week, any tips? I called and asked if I need to fast or anything and was told no.

Re: First Glucose Test Question
I had my test at 12:15 and that morning I ate eggs and cereal and a lot of water. I passed. My dr told me not to fast but if they ask say yes so thats what I did. GL!
Bring a magazine or a book while your waiting! I took mine at Quest Diagnostics in Babylon and wasnt allowed to leave so I was bored.

Re: First Glucose Test Question
Bring a straw!!! You can drink it down soooo much fast (and taste it less) with a straw. My insurance has a future moms program and the nurse advisor said not to eat carbs, fruits, or sugary foods the day of. Stick with proteins, eggs, etc. She also said not to eat 3 hours before the test so I didn't.
Keep in mind, I haven't gotten my results yet. lol I just took it on Friday.

Re: First Glucose Test Question
I didn't change anything.
I had mine at 3:30 in the afternoon after a full day of work, so I just ate whatever I normally eat - including a big chocolaty brownie!
I passed.

Re: First Glucose Test Question
please realize that there is nothing you can or cannot do that will change your results.
if you have GD - it's in your blood and fasting, not fasting, eating pure sugar from a packet or avoiding it for a week will not make a difference.
if you DO have it - it's not the end of the world - it does STINK...but you really do learn a lot!
Good luck!

Re: First Glucose Test Question
The one hour is just a screening so stuff you eat or drink - depending on your OB's cut off number CAN effect the result - if you fail though it doesn't mean you have GD - just means you have to take the 3 hr to find out. My OB says to fast an hour b/f from everything - eating and drinking and even vitamins. With my DS I had my test in the afternoon so I still had my normal cereal for breakfast - well, I failed - by just a few points and passed the 3 hr perfectly. This time around I learned my lesson - I took the test first thing in the morning and easily passed. The nurse agreed that the cereal I had could have made my numbers a little higher... So, my advice - take it first thing in the am and don't eat. This doesn't happen to everyone but I have a few friends that had the same experience
