When did you bring your child to the dentist for the first time.

First dental visit?
Dentists will tell you a year or sooner. Our ped says 2.5 so I went with that.

Re: First dental visit?
DD was about 2.5. They don't do very much, probably could have put it off until 3.

First dental visit?
Dd1 was 2.5. Dd2 was only 18months and they barely did anything but I was already taking dd1 so took them both.

First dental visit?
I tried at age 3 and it was a nightmare. Tried again at 4 and it was the same. Smartened up when he was 5, took him to a pediatric dentist and he loved it. So technically 3, success at 5.

2 years. He had no teeth until he turned a year. He got most of his teeth between 15-20 months.

My ped said any time between 2 and 3 and there's no need to go any sooner.

First dental visit?
Ok because DH and I were reading something our daycare gave us and it mentioned to start going once the first tooth broke through. What do you do for dental care prior to first visit?

As soon as my kid had 4 teeth on top and 4 on bottom, we started a brushing refining with non fluoride toothpaste.
We went in from 2-2.5 to our dentist (a peds dentist) with each kid. It's mostly just a check up and some fluoride treatments but it gets the kids used to the exam and gives us someone to see that we have a relationship with if something were to go wrong (broken tooth, etc). So far no cavities!!!

First dental visit?
We went at a year just to get him used to the dentist. We go to a pediatric dentist so its not as scary. We now go every 6 months.

My kids had their first teeth at 4 and 5 months, no way I'd be taking them to a dentist at that age. Just use a finger brush twice a day as soon as they get their first tooth with some fluoride free toothpaste.

They pediatrician said between 2-3. I waited until he was 3 bc I hated the thought of it.

Re: First dental visit?
DS was 4. I tried when he was younger and he was hysterical so we just left. I didn't force it and around 4 he started asking if he could go.
DD hit her tooth so I had to bring her around 18 months old and she was hystercial and we had to hold her down so he could just see in her mouth. I'll bring her back closer to 4.

First dental visit?
Right before my daughter turned 4 (was planning on going at 3 but kept forgetting)...they really don't do much, I don't see a need to rush it unless you have specific concerns.

Re: First dental visit?
I'll be bringing my ds soon and he's about to turn 4. I doubt he'll let the dentist do much, I'm sure he'll be freaking out. No way would I have been able to do it sooner with him.

Re: First dental visit?
I brought my ds1 at 2 and ds 1 at 1 because we were already there for ds1. They dont do much at 1 and 2 year old visits. Sure there is some crying but now my ds1 will be 4 this week and he went a couple weeks ago and they were able to get great xrays of his teeth. The hygienist and dentist even commented on how cooperative and still he stayed. I feel it is due to the fact he has been going every 6 months for 2 years. The goal is to make going to the dentist not scary and just routine.

This was us too with DD. Now DD LOVES the dentist. I think finding the right dentist is also key. DS went at just shy of 3 because we were taking DD. He was not as thrilled but it wasn't a horrible appointment.
