First Appt. with Dr. Hanauer

I have my first appointment with Dr. Hanauer (my new OB/GYN) tomorrow. I plan to discuss how DH and I have been TTC for the past few months. I was wondering if I should request some blood tests or other fertility tests in addition to the regular check up. If so, what should I ask for? TIA

He/she might suggest your DH get tested first. They did that with me, only because it's so much easier to rule the man out first. As much as many DHs do not want to do this, it's really not that big of a deal. My dr told me that up to 40% of the time it can be the male as the main cause and there are so many fixes for that. After my DH went, they were going to have me go get an HSG to make sure my tubes were clear. I ended up getting pg right after DH went for his semen analysis and never had the HSG. Unfortunately, my pg ended in tragedy (I m/c at 8 weeks), as you might have seen in my other posts. However, if I were to give any advice, I would say to ask your dr. what the order of testing or steps would be to determine if you just have not "hit it" or if there is a problem. You may really have to push this if you want it. Most doctors won't test for fertility problems unless you've been trying for at least 6 months if you're over 35, and a full year if you're under 35.

Thanks for your input ladies. DH was already tested and everything is good to go with him. I was just curious if there were any simple fertility tests, like blood tests. I am almost 33 and DH and I are in our third month TTC. I really don't want too much time to lapse before I find out if there is anything up with my fertility. I know of people who tried for 2 years only to eventually find out that there was a fertility problem. That is way too much time in my opinion to get to the bottom of a problem. I think that 6 months of TTC with perfectly timed BD and no BFP is all I would be willing to wait.

I met with Dr. Hanauer on Monday. I mentioned that I found out about her from this site and she said that many of her patients are coming from LI Families. She was very nice and totally down to earth. She was encouraging about the TTC process. She offered to do some blood tests to check for genetic disorders and various other things. I was pleased with the visit and will definitely continue to use her as my OB/GYN.
