fireplace question
So we have a gas fireplace with an oak mantel and black slate inbetween the mantel and the glass for the fireplace (hope that makes sense!) I want to paint the mantel white, we have white trim around the windows in that room and white crown moulding. Does anyone know what i can do with the black slate? I feel like it will look weird with a white mantel and black slate. I would love to do tile there but have no clue how to do it or who i could hire to do it. any thoughts? tia!

Re: fireplace question
I have no clue but wanted to add my two cents and say the black slate would probably look pretty nice. Our fireplace has brick and I'm trying to convince DH to change it to slate!
we're thinking about doing something like this:
