Finished Basement - Mold?
So the house we bought has a finished basement which isn't great. (old/outdated etc)
There is a tiny bit of mold in the corner by the floor where some water got in.
Our home inspector told us it could just be cleaned with a little bleach
Would you gut the whole basement and start fresh? There is no wet or damaged drywall but I don't know what they painted over either
ETA: I guess what I am trying to figure out is if gutting the basement is a good idea or a waste of money. Am I being overly concerned about the spot of mold? He did say the damage was old and there isn't any water coming in now...

Re: Finished Basement - Mold?
my concern would be that if mold is visible... that there would be more behind the walls...
i believe your concern is valid, if your DH is handy have him put on a hepa face mask and pull off a section of the wall... if you find mold i would call a professional because some mold can cause some serious health problems!

Re: Finished Basement - Mold?
I don't know that I would gut the basement for any reason at this point if I were you, other than if I wanted to redo the basement. I am not sure what you are really asking....
Is this a project you have the time and energy to take on now?
About the mold, you would have to rip that wall open to see what is going on behind it.

Re: Finished Basement - Mold?
A little bit of mold can be removed with bleach and a new coat of paint. No need to gut your bsmt.

Re: Finished Basement - Mold?
You can always have a contractor remove the sheetrock where the mold is and re-rock the area in question.
