Finger tip dilated-36 weeks

Finger tip dilated-36 weeks
I just got back from my 36 week appt and the doctor told me I was finger tip dilated and my cervix was soft. He said I wouldn't be having the baby this week (thank goodness-I am not ready!)
But, that got me thinking-does this mean I could go early? i.e next week or the week after or is this just normal for being 36 weeks along?

Thanks, but I think I am finding out that it is not very exciting and doesn't really mean too much (I cross posted on parenting for BTDT moms).

Thats exciting!!! Unfortunetly you can be a fingertip dilated for the next 4 weeks, but hopefully you'll have better luck then that & your baby will come out when you are both ready!!

honestly you never know. i have been 3-4 cm dilated and 90% effaced since week 32 and now im in my 35th week and there hasnt been any change in over 3 weeks!!
everyone is different though so you just never know...
