filing tax help
My DD is 20 and a full time student we claim her on our taxes. She made 5358.00 last year and paid $344 in federal taxes. The 1040 EZ form states that you need to file if you earned income was over $6300 (which hers isn't) i just want to make sure I'm not missing something and she doesn't have to file.

No, she doesn't have to, but it might be worth it. She will likely get back money she paid in taxes. My SS filed -he is a HS senior and works very part time -he got back a little over $300. It's very easy to file the EZ form. You can do it on TurboTax for free

filing tax help
If she does her own taxes, can't they not claim her as a dependent anymore?

She can still be their dependent. Her tax return will account for that - she cannot claim the personal exemption, but she can get back at least some of the taxes withheld in her paycheck.

Correct. She can't claim herself AND her parents claim her.
I'm not an accountant but if she is due money back I would assume she should File. Why give Uncle Sam free Money?
Eta. When I was living at home I did my taxes with the exemption to see how Much I would get back. My dad gave me back that amount because I was more of a deduction for him than myself. Win/win ;)

Re: filing tax help
I ended up doing it under Taxslayer because Turbo charged for State return then again if I wanted to pay through the return. Taxpayer was $14.99 for the state return. She ended up getting all of Federal back but had to pay $44 for state.
We still claim her as she lives at home and we pay for her college and all expenses.

Did she put on her return that someone eles can claim her as a dependent?
