Fighting bedtime- need advice
Ds has been fighting bedtime since when he got sick weeks ago (about a month ago).
We did CIO and he was starting to go down without a fight again, but then he got sick again.
Anyways, it seems that he fights going to bed more than he goes down easily these days. CIO or no CIO.
He also for the past few nights will finally go to sleep and then 45 minutes later, he wakes up crying.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on?
He's almost 11 months old. Wakes at 6:15 and goes to bed at 7pm. Takes 2 naps a day (hour and a half each) from 9-10:30 and then 1:30-3pm.
Any advice or help would be great.
You don't think it's time to transition him to one nap, do you?

I don't think you have to transition him to one nap yet. And, he's going to bed early enough that I wouldn't think he's overtired.
Have you changed his bedtime routine at all recently?
Do you have a white noise machine in the room?
I think with some kids (including my son) you have to revisit CIO every now and then. Sometimes it can even take a few days for it to kick in again. They go through phases all the time, and I find that the one thing that is always affected is their sleeping habits.
When he wakes after the 45 mins are you going in to him or letting him CIO?

Well he just woke up and i let him CIO.
Nope haven't changed his routine at all. He's had a sound machine in his room since day 1.
Yeah we've had to revisit CIO so many times, i can't even tell you. So much so that i'm so tired of hearing him cry (don't get me wrong, CIO works). But we've had to revisit it usually about once or twice a month lately.
Was kind of hoping there was a different solution.

Ohhh, I'm sorry! Also - can you tell if he's getting any new teeth in? I always remember Jack waking up when he was teething. When it was primetime teething hell I would give him Motrin right before bed.
Sorry I'm not any help! Hope this passes soon!

Re: Fighting bedtime- need advice
My DS has fought bedtime from the day he was born, he is now 8 months. we started a routine about a month ago, we bring him into our bed, put on the twilight turtle, the fan for noise, and his music. he rolls around and around on the bed for 15-20 min and just passes out, then we transfer him to his crib. I know it sounds like a pain but before this he would not sleep and would have 40 minute crying episodes where I would keep rocking him to calm him down. we are not a CIO family, so we HAD to figure something else out. but tonight for the very first time, we did the routine, I let him roll around for 10 m inutes but he was not sleeping, I put him in his crib and he FINALLY fell asleep on his own so I'm going to gradually shorten his "roll around" time. like I said, it's a pain but I guess it's working!

Re: Fighting bedtime- need advice
The last week or two were pretty tough with Rylan too. we were at the point where he went down fine and if he woke during the night he would fall back asleep. The past week or two he's been crying for about 15 minutes when we put him in and then waking about 3 or 4 times a night screaming for about 5 minutes. Last night was better and tonight was good...I hope it's over!!

Re: Fighting bedtime- need advice
No real advice, but Ali, Christopher was a terrible sleeper until he was 1. I don't know if it was him eating table food, or if CIO just clicked, but now he is a dream at night.
Hopefully, Jacen will be the same

Re: Fighting bedtime- need advice
How about a noise machine like she suggested above? Both of my DC sleep with either the humidifier or AC on - mainly for the noise. They always needed it.
I will rock DS for a minute or 2 then I dump him in and put his aquarium on and he will put himself to sleep. Sometimes he rolls over from being soooooooo drowsy with a big smile like it's play time and screams when I leave but he gets over it fairly quickly.

Re: Fighting bedtime- need advice
I think kids go through certain "phases" with their sleep habits. DS began sleeping through the night at 10 weeks. Then after he was 3 months he began waking up twice a night. He also had a couple of nights he fought to go down to sleep. Now (knock on wood) he's sleeping through the night again and is out as soon as I put him down in the crib no fuss. I say give you baby some time. He might be having a coiple of "off" weeks. Comfort him if he wakes up. I think it will reasuure him you're there for him no matter what. Once he sees that I think he'll go back to his old ways. I totally sympathize, sleep deprivation is a Biotch! lol

We have one already.
Unfortunately nothing works. You can't rock him because then he sits there and points at the fan or laughs at you.
Once the aquarium goes off or his mobile, he starts crying.
I wish we could let him roll around our bed and that would do it. But he won't. He won't sleep in our bed either. It's like he knows that a bed is for sleep and he wants no part of that.
We already have a routine for night time.

Re: Fighting bedtime- need advice
Does he have a lovie? A small stuffed animal that he likes?
When I started CIO, I introduced one to DS and just kept giving it to him at bed time and naps. Now as soon as he sees it, he knows it's bedtime. He gets excited when he sees it, takes it from my hand, sticks his thumb in his mouth and lays down (most times )

Re: Fighting bedtime- need advice
DD was fighting going to sleep big time. One night I decided to leave the door open. I felt like she cried the minute we closed it, b/c it was light in the hallway and then it got dark in her room and she felt like we were "gone". When I leave it open now for the most part she has no tears. Then, 10-15 min. later when she is sleeping I close it.
It's a long shot, but could you try that w/ Jacen??
