Fifth's Disease?
DH's aunt caught it from a student in her class. Her dr. says that she isn't contagious anymore but she is thinking of not attending a party that I am throwing for DH on Saturday because I am pregnant as a precaution.
She is our favorite aunt and I want to encourage her to come, but what do you ladies think? If the doctor says it's not contagious it's not a big deal right?

Re: Fifth's Disease?
You should find out from your dr. if you are immune to it. When they did bloodwork they should have tested for it.

I took the blood test to check for the pregnancy hormones but I haven't had my full pregnancy workup yet...

Hmmm, I would be concerned still. It's very dangerous.
I found out I am immune (I worked with children), it's too bad you don't know yet.

Re: Fifth's Disease?
I know you didnt have the full workup---but maybe they did it in the beginning stages. I would call up your dr and ask.
How does your aunt know shes not contagious? Is she immune? If not, you are contagious until the rash comes out.
If it were me, and I wasnt sure if either she or myself were immune, than I would not go around that person.

Re: Fifth's Disease?
Unless she caught 5th disease than it is safe for you to be near her. Meaning, you can't get 5th disease from a 2nd party person. You need to have direct contact from the person with the disease.
A co-worker of mine was exposed (ended up not getting it) and she told me since we work together. I called the dr and they said that I would have had to have gotten it directly from the person who had the full blow disease. Luckily, they tested me when I went in for my first round of bloodwork (at like 6 weeks) and I am immune. Call your dr. just to make sure they haven't already tested you.
