Ferber Sleep Training Method

If you did the Ferber Sleep Training method, did it work?

What was your experience?

Any tips? Advice?

We are going to do this Thanksgiving Weekend since we have 3 consecutive nights without work.

I did it when my DS was 6 months old. My DS was literally waking up every 1-2 hours to nurse. I was just barely surviving.

I set a limit that I would let him cry for 30 minutes and then I'd go in and soothe him. He cried for 15-20 minutes and then stopped. He woke up one more time and cried for maybe 2-3 minutes and went back to sleep. It was literally successfully in one night. He then sttn for 2 months. He regressed around 8-9 months. After 1-2 weeks of erratic sleep, I did CIO again and then he sttn again for 2 months and then regressed. Usually his regressions are linked to illness or teething.

Some people go in and soothe at more regular intervals. That would not have worked for my DS - especially if I went in since he immediately associated me with food.

At 18 months, he is definitely not an excellent sleeper, but is definitely MUCH better than last October!

I did it at 3.5 months (very early) with DD because she was waking up 10-15 times per night for her paci. It worked in about 3 nights. She didn't start STTN until 5 months, but it decreased her night wakings significantly. I'd do it. It's worth a shot!

Ferber Sleep Training Method

Thanks ladies! I bought the book yesterday so I can see how to conduct the method based on the needs of DS.

Wish me luck!

Ferber Sleep Training Method

I did it with my dd around 6-7 months bc she started waking in the night, worked like a charm very quickly.

BUT she slept through the night since 6 weeks and wasn't eating during the night.

my son on the other hand is 6 months and has a bottle during the night. I want to do the Ferber method but im worried about doing it to cut his bottle off

That's why I am doing it. My DS is still waking 2-3 times at night for a bottle and the doc said he doesn't need it and is doing it out of habit.

He also wakes up in between the bottles. For example, last night he had a bottle at 8:30p then woke up at 11:45p and I gave him a bottle. Then he woke up at 2:45a and I gave him a bottle. From 2:45a until 6:45a he was up and down every half hour to hour. At 6:45am I gave him another bottle. No consecutive sleep for him or me. There is no medical reason for him to be doing that.

I am totally fine with the 8:45pm bottle and the 6:454am bottle but he really doesn't need the other two. His weight it perfect for his age and he is also eating solid foods.

I feel like if I continue this pattern, I am conditioning him in the wrong direction.
