Fencing out neighbors

So we havent even moved in yet and one of our older neighbors is a bit of a whiner and a wierdo. I think he's manic depressive because he's complaining about something one moment and happy the next. Anyway theres a chainlink fence separating our properties and the previous owner had privacy bushes which we had to remove because they were falling over. He asked my wife if she'd was going to get a fence and he said he'd go in for half of a pvc fence up until the garage (about 20ft) but he doesnt want to pay for the rest because he doesnt see that part which i think is a really cheapo thing to say but the guy is crazy enough i think it would be best to just get the 6ft pvc fence and forget about it. or possibly when the fence is installed, have them install it so its over our side of the property so at least if im paying more its technically mine. Or I can tell him forget it and if he doesnt like it put up a wood fence on his side of the chainlink. thoughts?

and does anyone know a pvc fence guy in nassaua / queens? thanks! Im hoping a 40 ft. fence wouldnt cost more than a 1000

Congrats on the new home!

Honestly, if I were in your situation & my new neighbor was a weirdo I wouldn't want to go 1/2 on anything with him. Sharing ownership with him could get sticky if he's a whacko. If the fence needed repairs would he expect you to pay for it? Even if it's the result of something he did? If he sells & the fence is on his property would you have issues with the new neighbor? I know lots of people do the sharing thing w/out a prob but I'm personally very wary of it. I'd just leave it as-is until I could afford to do something on my own (bushes or PVC/wood fence). GL with the new home & with this guy

ETA: We used Liberty Fence a year or two ago for our PVC fence & we are/were very happy with them!

congrats on the home! Sorry that one of your neighbors is already complaining. It happens. If you can afford it, I would just have the PVC fencing installed and don't except money from the neighbor. Make sure it's on your property line and not his. We used Liberty this year and they were the cheapest price. If you did this in the Fall or early Spring fence companies are even cheaper usually. I would think for a 40ft area it should be under or around $1,000. Good Luck!

Congrats on your new home! We too used Liberty Fence just last year. Honestly, I would just fence your yard on your property. If he's crazy like you said, you don't want to get into it with him down the road.
