Feeling guilty

I am 27 weeks PG with twins, and my doctor has taken me out of work- my last day was the 22nd. I am doing fantastic, no pregnancy complications whatsoever, he just takes all of his twin moms out of work early. I work 3 days a week, my boys are in daycare 2 days and with my in laws 1 day. My MIL offered to still take them every Wed., even after the girls are born, and the daycare suggested I keep them in their 2 days so they still have that routine. So I am keeping everything the same. Did anyone else keep up their child care routine while on maternity leave? I won't be going back to work until early September, so that would be a long time for the boys to be out of daycare, I feel it would be hard to get them back in that routine if I were to keep them home. I just feel so guilty, like I should be savoring every second with them before the twins come. The truth is they are driving me up the wall most days and I think it would be better for everyone involved if we kept everything as is. So why do I feel like such a terrible mom??

Re: Feeling guilty

We kept my older son in day care to keep routine ( and honestly it's a good break, I don't know how full time sahms do it) sounds like they only part time anyway, still lots of bonding time during the rest of the week.

They would have a harder time starting again in September. The twins coming would we a hard change to begin with. Routine is good.

Congrats and be well xo

Re: Feeling guilty

DS1 was 3.5 when DS2 was born. I kept him in daycare 5 days per week for the first 2 weeks while I recovered from my c-section. Then I dropped him down to 3 days per week for the rest of my maternity leave. It kept a routine, but also allowed me to spend some quality time with him. Don't feel guilty. You're doing what's best for everyone.

Do a small special activity with them while you have time.
I do think it's good to stick on routine...
Don't have guilt! Lots of stay at home mamas have a nanny or babysitter to help them out... And that's without being term pregnant with twins!

Keep them in day care and don't feel guilty! We plan on keeping DS in day care when I have #2.

Re: Feeling guilty

Do it! Your boys will just be bored at home all day and will drive you nuts. Don't feel bad. It's better for them.

Go with your gut. Sounds like it is telling you to keep the boys home. September is a long while away.

Re: Feeling guilty

Thank you everyone. Chat Icon No matter what my oldest is going to keep going- he is almost 4 so even if I were a SAHM I would have him in some type of program anyway. It was more about my little guy- he will be 2 in March. DH really wants him to keep going. When I go back to work in Sept. we are upping them to 3 full days so that my in laws have the twins all 3 days. DH doesn't think he should miss 9 months of going and then be there 3 days a week 8-5:30. For now I guess he will go. I can change my mind whenever, as long as I give daycare 2 weeks notice.

I'm the exact opposite and feel guilt that my 2 year old is not in a program. I'm stuck home with a preemie and feel bad that she's not getting out as much as she used to. She misses her friends and just boring errands we used to do more of. She even stopped napping which I blame on her not getting as much stimulation. I wouldn't feel bad about keeping them in especially since it's not every day.

i would definitely keep them going and in their routine. it will be best for them... especially since it will be 9 months that you'll be home- that's a long time for them to be out of school and it wiould definitely be hard for them to get back into it after that long. you'll need the break as you get further along in your pregnancy.... and if they only go 3 days, you'll still have 2 days to hang out with them Chat Icon honestly- especially with boys- they need to get out, they need stimulation!!! Chat Icon I'm a SAHM to one DS who is 4. i have him in a program 3 mornings a week and he LOVES it!!! and i love the break!! HAHA i have a friend who is a SAHM with 2 kids- 4 and almost 2.... and she has BOTH kids in daycare 5 days a week from 8-12:30. she doesn't feel guilty- she uses that time for the million other house things that need to get done, and her kids are happy being out with the other kids.... so i say just keep them in their routine Chat Icon

Definitely keep them in! A lot of change is coming their way and they will need the routine of school/daycare to keep things normalized for them. They will also get soooooo bored at home. I kept my DS in when I had my DD and it was the best for both of us. He had his friends and fun at school and I got to spend much needed bonding time with the new baby. Don't feel like a bad mom, you are doing what is best for your boys.
