Feeling breathless

I'm feeling breathless today and will be 30 weeks tomorrow. From what I have read this is normal but was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? It's making me a little nervous. I feel like my belly is not that huge that it's pushing things around, but I guess maybe it is!

Re: Feeling breathless

I definitely starting getting this late in my PG, at 30weeks its totally normal they told me! I think your diaphragm is squished upward so it creates that feeling of not being able to get a good 'gulp' of air. I found it to be OK during the day, but worse at night when trying to sleep... I told my ob about it (I had anxiety about it after 2 weeks or so!) and he assured me its all normal. Luckily you'll get relief at 36/37 weeks as they baby descends, the pressure on your diaphragm will be eased! Just take it easy and rest if you need to catch your breath!!

Re: Feeling breathless

This has been happenign to me to. I was a little bummed last night because I was breathing heavily walking up a hill I used to run up Chat Icon My Dr. said that it is a combination of less room for your lungs and your membranes being swollen from PG, she said not to expect to breathe normally until the baby is born. Re: Feeling breathless

I started having this in middle of the 2nd trimester, but now at 28 weeks it's been happening a lot more often. I find it when I'm sitting a lot. My doctor said it's normal, everything is getting squished and pushing up on your lungs. He said if you feel like you have a pillow over your face, that isn't normal and to let him know about that.

Re: Feeling breathless

I felt rather breathless starting around 30 weeks... it DID improve a bit once scone dropped (about 34 weeks).

While I'm not breathless, I AM fatigued now. Mainly becuase of my hips and my swollen ankles. it's very hard to move around these days and everything seems like a major chore Chat Icon

Re: Feeling breathless

I started to feel breathless this week. I was told it was because baby P*star's head is pushing on my diaphram and lungs. The doctor also stated it's normal since your organs are being compressed by the uterus.

Re: Feeling breathless

That is the absolute worst feeling. But I can tell you this, the minute you give birth, you will be able to breathe again.

I remember, when DD was born 4 years ago, (I had a c-section), when they pulled her out, I could feel my lungs fully expand for the first time in months, and it was heaven....

Re: Feeling breathless

I just came back from an "All About Mommy" class at my OB's office. The nurse was talking about how as we get further along in pregnancy it's not uncommon to feel short of breath. She told us if you stand up, or even after you walk up a flight of stairs, to raise your arms, put your hands on your head and take some deep breaths, it should help with the breathlessness. She advised even if you're sitting down watching TV, do this every now and then (maybe during a commercial or something), stand up, do this excercise and it should help.

Re: Feeling breathless

Thanks ladies for the reassurance/tips. It's kinda scary. Chat Icon I don't feel like I'm carrying high at all either, or that the baby is that big yet...but I guess I am denial considering I am 30 weeks! Chat Icon
