Feel like a jerk now. WWYD Re: coworker gift exchange.

So, funny that a few days ago someone posted the question about whether or not people exchange gifts with coworkers. I said Thankfully, no. Except I guess b/c I have 2 new coworkers this year, the agreement about not exchanging is out the window. It's a small office - 4 staff and 2 partners. We chipped in for partner gifts and this morning, I came in to find gifts from the 3 women on my desk. And guess what I had for them - NADA! Chat Icon Chat Icon
One girl has been here, so she knew I guess, but either didn't feel comfortable mentioning it or whatever - but now I feel like a big loser.
At this point, I guess there's really not much to do, right? WWYD

I hate when I'm not prepared and someone gives me a gift. Can you go out during lunch and pick something up?

Show up tomorrow with gifts. Is not like there was a set day everyone was exchanging. Don't sweat it

I would personally bring something in tomorrow so it looks like you had thought of them but just didn't bring it in today. Maybe you wanted to do it for Xmas eve.

If you buy something at lunch and give them something this afternoon it looks like you only got them something bc they hot you something. Which of course you did, but oh well.

i would just pick up a bottle of wine for each. I always have a couple of extra bottles and bags every year just in case! If i don't give them as a gift it certainly won't go to waste anyway :)

Are you working tomorrow? Just go get them Starbucks gift cards (or something like that) and bring them in tomorrow.

If you're not working tomorrow, can you run out on your lunch break and get some gift cards?

That's so annoying that the woman who isn't new didn't give you a heads up that gifts were being exchanged. Chat Icon

If you are in tomorrow, I would bring something in.

If not, spring for lunch.

I wouldn't feel so badly. If I have a gift and didn't get one in return, my feelings would not be hurt. I like to think the majority of people give gifts because they want to, not because they expect one in return. :)
