feedings and STTN

My 4 month old gets 30oz of formula a day - Four 6oz bottles during the day and one at night. Last night, she slept through the night for the first time. If this continues (fingers crossed), is she supposed to get more oz during the day to make up for that night bottle that she's missing. Without that nighttime bottle, she would only get 24oz, which hardly seems like enough.

I'm well aware that this could have been a one time thing. In which case, to encourage STTN, am I still supposed to increase her formula during the day in the hopes that she wont need one at night? how does this work?

does she drain the 6 oz bottles? try bumping up to 7oz in her daytime bottles.

DD is also 4 months and takes 4 6oz bottles during the day and 1 6oz at night. I am WAITING for her to STTN Chat Icon Chat Icon

No, she actually still leaves a half ounce or so sometimes so I think she's OK at 6 for now. Just wondering, i guess, what happens when babies start sleeping through the night and give up a full bottle

you may notice she starts finishing them now. once she is draining them all for a 24 hour period, up each bottle 1/2 oz Chat Icon

we slowly increased her day time bottles to compensate.

DD used to get five 6.5 / 7oz bottles. when she dropped the 11pm feed, we slowly decreased that one, and increased the remaining 4 to stay around the same total ounces per day.

The answer is - it depends. DS was drinking too much when he wasn't sttn, so when he started sttn, we just dropped that bottle.

But 24 oz is not a lot. I'd try upping the last bottle to 7 oz or squeeze an extra feeding in right before bedtime to get in a few extra oz.
