Feeding schedule and getting enough ounces

I know that new babies are supposed to be fed every 2 hours, not supposed to go longer than 4 hours without eating, and are supposed to get 20 -24oz a day of formula and/or breast milk. I have a VERY sleepy baby on my hands and the last 3 days when I've tried to get her to eat without HER signaling that she's hungry (no rooting or fussing), she just throws it up (definitely not spit up) because her belly is full I guess.

I'm concerned that she's not getting enough because it's hard to meet the 20oz goal without waking her with the way she's sleeping. We had a rough first few days with breastfeeding so I already feel like she wasn't getting enough and I don't want her to be malnourished. Other than sleeping for HOURS straight, she seems happy and alert when she's awake and has enough wet and dirty diapers.

Please help! Is this normal? We have our first doctor's visit on Monday and I called the ped today but I just need some peace of mind until I get to Monday.

Rule of thumb- as long as there are 8-10 wet or dirty diapers a day she's getting enough. It's so hard in the beginning- especially if you're breastfeeding. I had to repeat that mantra ALL the time, "as long as there are plenty of wet and dirty diapers, she's getting enough".Chat Icon

Don't stress, first day my ds didn't eat more that the breast milk I squirted in his mouth. I was having issues bf. First few days he barely ate, was falling asleep after couple of min. I was a nervous wreak, but around day 5 he was suddenly always hungy

Its normal, first few days tummies are tiny, wait till about 5 days to worry about getting enough ounces

I always just fed on demand and not by the clock. DD wouldn't eat if she wasn't hungry and it would result in both of us having a meltdown.

Sometimes it was every 90 minutes, sometimes it was every 3 hours.

In the beginning she was only taking 1 to 1.5 ounces at a time which was perfectly fine. Their bellies are so tiny.
